I have a German Shepherd that has recently turned 1. After exghausting almost every kibble known to man (she is picky lol) a new aquantence suggested a raw food diet. It sounds like a good idea but I dont really know what to start with or how much. She is about 30lbs but it changes. She is a rescue and could be mixed. She doesnt have a large build and is on the small side weighing about 30lbs, I have been trying to put weight on her but since she is so picky its hard to do however we have managed to put on enough weight that she isn't a skeleton now (yay). I am not sure if the breed changes anything but there ya go. Any help will be appreciated but keep in mind im not rich. Thanks a ton <3

Lots of info out there on this one below is one I have sent people to starting out.

In most grocery stores there is a clearence section for meat. Meat that must be sold within the next few days. If you visit in the morning they are often full especially in this great crappy economy. Start mixing in some raw chicken chopped finely in your kibble add a dollop of yogurt daily and egg every couple days to start. COOKED bones should NEVER be given to dogs.

Chicken is usually used as the main part of the diet since its so inexpensive. Feed one protein source (chicken) for a week before introducing another protein source for variety. Beef, fish, rabbit, pork, lamb, goat and pork consist of RMB (raw meaty bones). Yogurt can be given in small amounts (plain, no preservatives), eggs, muscle meat and offal (kidneys, liver, etc).

Learn about sam if you have kids or are not an often hand washer. Lots of info on this site as well use the search upper right corner : Barf

Also in addition to the above;  I liked Von Lotta puppy menu it is 0-18 months;  Jane Anderson's PWD site as she is the original writer on all of this raw feeding;  and as listed above  SOS.  You can get all this info together and then make a decision which way and what to feed your dog(s).  Also it does pay to shop around for your best deals and I do not find raw feeding very economical so I shop for best prices and least waste.  also plenty of books on the subject with recipe's included the reading is endless.  BOL  Nan

As stated above start with only one new protein at a time and after a week or so if all is well then you can add something new.  Also do NOT overfeed.  With any organ meats and offal start with small amounts.  Same with dairy products until you know the dog can tolerate. Nan

Nice addition, Nan. Thanks I have filed this one as well. I forgot to include no smoked bones as well as cooked for anybody who might come across this as well, and not know.
