For those of you who don't know, the date that a dog was registered with AKC is sensitive information that is used when registering litters or transferring ownership (and more) this date is in the lower right side of the AKC registration certificate.
Anyhoo, apparently this breeder didn't give a rat's @ss if anyone else used their dogs' AKC info for unethical reasons. This is the response I got
"It is hard to sell dogs. And if someone buys into a false situation that's there fault."
I already figured the breeder was a BYB, they just had 1 breeding pair of dogs, no info on their pedigrees online beyond the names of their sires and dams, no health testing, nothing other than a fancy website with one male and one female AKC registered German Shepherds with absolutely no proof that they were breed worthy, not even good photos of their breeding dogs.
Just a breeder sinking to a new low I hadn't seen before, not even caring if another breeder steals their dogs' info. Sort of like not caring if someone steals your child's SS number IMO (ok, not nearly as bad...but along the same lines)

You seemed to have cared enough to inform them, but when you didnt get a response to say - oh thank you Lone Ranger - great god-the keeper of akc registrations for helping me - you turned on them? After all - you road up on your white horse to save them. So if they dont appreciate it - I will get you and your little doggy too.......
You should have taken the high road - not the low road.
Just my opinion though......

It's not the AKC pedigree that anyone can order that is sensitive info. But, Newbie, you're right about protecting your personal address too.
However, when someone orders a dog's pedigree info from AKC, what does NOT come with it is the "certificate issued" date, all the rest of the info on an AKC registration certificate is public, only the CI date is private. The certificate issued dates are needed when registering litters of puppies, if someone got their hands on a male's CI date (as well as the rest of the AKC info) then they could falsify AKC litter registration easily.
As far as actually stealing a dog's AKC registration, I heard a story once about how someone forged AKC registration certificates (had to do with Labradors) and then transferred (or tried too?) dogs into their name. I do not know if they were actually successful or not, but I imagine that it could be done if someone knew all the info on a dog's certificate.
I'm now super careful with my dogs' certificates and I don't allow anyone to see them unless I'm actually selling a dog. It does mortify me when I see registration certificates online without any of the info blocked.

Perhaps a sticky on protecting yourself and ideas like this is a good idea. Loopholes in the systems that can be exploited and the power of knowledge to close them from being used against people.

lol Beetree.
thats a good idea, GSDNewbie, but it would be an awfully long list too, I imagine. I only know this info about AKC papers, I don't know how it is with SV, KC, CKC (Canadian), UKC, etc. registries.
