I got a call earlier today from the co-pastor of my family's church. Apparently about a week or so ago he took on a bloodhound from someone that wasn't able to keep it anymore and was going to dump it at the shelter. He and his wife had met the dog before and really liked it's personality so they didn't want to see it go to a shelter and possibly PTS. HOWEVER, the co-pastor is not very dog knowledgeable and he and his household is VERY busy, they have a lot of children, they work many, many hours in church related things and he is a counselor for addicts. They have crazy-busy schedules. So no time to give a new dog attention or work, plus the dog is too large for their home.
Despite all this, he had nothing but good things to say about this dog, for being a bloodhound it sounds like it's actually a very good house pet.
So here is what I'm told:
Name is Copper, male, 3 yrs old, neutered, crate trained, housebroken, is NOT noisy! they haven't had any issues with the dog howling or barking, walks pretty well on leash, even their youngest child can walk the dog, is GREAT with children, very sweet, lovable dog, wonderful personality. They do not have any other pets, nor did the dog's previous owner have any other pets, so they don't really know how it is with other animals. However, they have let the dog play with one of their neighbor's small dog and the bloodhound did very good with the small dog.
The dog is UTD on shots, wormings, he comes with all his paperwork (he doesn't know what exactly all the paperwork is, but I think it has registration papers...don't know which registry)
They are giving the dog away for free to a home that will be very good to the dog. I'm not sure if all the dog's supplies (crate, leash/collar, toys, dishes, etc.) come with the dog, but there is a good chance that they do.
So, all in all, the bloodhound sounds like he's a really great dog, I don't know what his potential is as a working dog but at least he sounds like he's a great family companion.
Located in Columbus, Ohio. Transportation may be possible (for the cost of gas, etc)

I'm told that the kids still at home* are in love with this dog and are hanging out with him every moment they can.
I'm hoping that somebody who does or wants to do SAR or tracking will take this boy, or perhaps someone who wants a therapy dog.
*I say kids "still at home" because this is a really big family, I'm not sure exactly how many kids they have but I know some are grown and moved out.
The whole family already seems to be very attached to the dog, they really, really want to know that the dog goes to a good home.
