18 year old homeless lad who has nothing but the clothes on his back and his one year old whippet.
The two of them were up in the fields last night trying to catch some rabbits, as that's the only way he can feed his whippet, and the dog went into a hole and broke its leg badly.
On finding out what had happened I volunteered to take the dog to the nearest vet and pay for treatment as the lad has no money or pet insurance.
The lad had already phoned a family friend who took the whippet to a vet and the friend offered to pay for treatment.
Unfortunately,the break was too bad and the whippet had to be euthanised.
I consider myself quite hardened but this shook me up quite a bit.

What a shame for the young lad --- he must be shattered by the loss of what he might feel was his only true friend.
Bless you for your offer of help.
I hope this young man is able to find the right path to a happy life and not a life on the streets.
