Lucas, wherever you are, has done some very nice portraits, 4packs avatar is an example. (Wherever she may be, being busy with her babies!)
I can suggest a few things though, to help them be what is more aptly called, "a telling portrait". What that means, is to include objects, or a place, or adornments or whatever that are personal to the subject, to complete the story.
