Just received info that Taste Of The Wild dog food will not be shipped due to a problem at one it the SC plants. There is a recall on their Diamond brand food from the South Carolina plant due to ingrediients. Now they are also suspending shipping of TOTW food as well. We use TOTW fowl formula. I was not aware that TOTW was also made by DIamond. Now I am concerned and throwing out the bag and a half we have at home of it. Is there a comparable grain free dog food out there to TOTW in price and ingredients? We have had good luck with this brand and formula. Our one male German Shepherd is ha to keep weight on and a fussy eater. He gained weight on TOTW fowl formula and has a nice coat. Hate to change brands again but looks like we will need to. Thanks, Northwinds

if in wisconsin, i use American natural premium, it is a very good food at a decent price.
they do have a few grain free ones too. as far as i know they only sell this food in WI,IL,MN, it is made at the Fromm factory here in wi.  excellent coats on this food, firm stools.
not too good for young pups,  being to rich for puppies.

otherwise i think most are alot more than TOTW.  i thought everyone knew TOTW was from Diamond, i have know for a long time , thats why i wont touch it.

good luck

Thanks Trixx, We used to feed Fromm's food. But when we went to the grain free their's was a little high in price for us at over fifty five a bag for 30 pounds. I wll look for the American natural premium. We are in central Wisconsin so I am hoping we can find it close to home. I should have researched TOTW better when we switched over to it from Fromm's. Never would have changed to it if I had known it was made by Diamond. Northwinds

You shouldn't feed TOTW to puppies, either, speaking of Amer. Nat. Prem. being not good for pups. I don't recall the percentages of the critical components in that food, so I can't comment on that, but definitely, TOTW is NOT for large breed puppies. It has nearly 3x the optimal levels of calcium, which is known to cause skeletal abnormalities.

i am feeding AMP grain free duck and pork to my dog that has Alergies, she is doing good on it.
it goes about $42 for 30 pounds so pretty good, there food with grains in it go about $30 for 40 pounds. they have alot of formulas and i have been feeding it to my adults for a few years now and they do excellent on it. they dont have  the big  brand name , and do not advertise , so can keep there  prices very reasonable.
i use  the AMP ex. choice on my breeding dogs, which is mainly chicken base , it was made for the show  dogs .
they use rice as the grain, not wheat ,soy or corn in there food.

website they have a list of all the places they sell to in wi. as its alot of places, should be easy to find.

most of the food are around the 25% protein,  i think the duck grain free is 28%

i love this food.

but with puppies, well not sure what to feed them , but need  more for them than AMP.

i have tryed many puppy foods and really have not been very happy.

I know you're up north, OP, but for people in the South reading this thread there's an excellent Texas company named Victor that has some good quality, affordable grain-free options.  It's a family-owned company and all their food is made in-house.  They only distribute in the Southern U.S., though.

If you are looking for a good quality kibble. I would take a look at Natural Balance. They have several limited ingredient grain free diets. Their Synergy or Ultra formulas are very good also, but they are not grain free. If your male has a hard time keeping weight on I would try the Synergy formula. Alot of people that have agility dogs use that formula.

Another food to look at is Wellness CORE. It is a great higher protein grain free food. All the people that I have talked to that feed CORE love it and their dogs looks great. It isnt cheap, but is a great food.

You could also look into NutriSource and also Canidae. Not sure if it is available where you live. But both of these are good quality kibbles.
