Hello, can anyone give me advice or pointers about this years show in Indianapolis. I want to enter my 7 month old puppy and 21 month old female to be evaluated. They are both working line sables, but checking different sources and videos, most of the dogs entered look like show lines. Do working lines usually enter this show? Also, what can I expect and what do I need to bring for equipment. Do I need to be down there for the practice on Thursday? I have been to the webpage for the show but the itinerary is not posted yet. Thanks for any helpful information.

i am sure some one will come on here  that has more experiece than me, but  i can tell you what i know.
working lines are more than welcome to be in the show, but there never is alot. Usually  there are a few in each class.

you can handle your own dogs , but if not experience , you may want to find a handler and there will be many at the show.

i would look for some one in your area that knows how to show, so they can show you what needs to be done , you should practice, before the show.

i have only done  a few shows myself, but i am planning to be there and will have a dog in the female untitle class.

i am planning to do her myself, but i would hire a handler  if i had a dog for the working class.

you will need a show collar and a 6 foot leash. not sure what type of collar you can use on the puppy.

the practice on  Thursday is for the bite work mainly for the working class dogs.

well hope this has helps abit.

there are a couple of discussions in the "conformation" section of this site, lots of good info...

you could also do the smaller shows, if you want to get  started into showing, as many  owners go there to show there dogs.  thats where i started. but the same thing you will need some help into showing , learning how its all done, but will need a double handler, who ever your dogs likes the  best should be the double handler and would run around the outside of the ring to get your dogs to want to  pull. if i was you i would go and watch  one of the smaller SV shows so you can see what its all about.

Please go to the "conformation showing" board on this site and you will find everything you are looking for.
As a side note:
I embrace working lines showing in conformation and strongly encourage it! BUT this is a "SIEGER SHOW" which is equivalent to an AKC National Specialty show. Guidelines to follow would be that this NOT be your first show unless you put a tremendous amount of pre-show training in. And most people only bring their best. Heck your working dogs could easily have VP/SG - very good (promising) conformation, but most of the time people show under several judges before a National show, just so that you have other evaluations to guide you on what to expect from the Sieger Show judges. If it is the only show in your area, then yes, train your dog and go see what they have to say and get your ratings for sure. But if you have other club level shows before hand then go show at those first and see what their recommendations are. You can achieve the same ratings at a club or regional level show. The only difference in ratings at a Sieger Show is in the working class, where a Sieger show is the only show that a working class dog can achieve VA rating. The other difference is that a Sieger show requires the working class to do bite work testing in addition to the showing in the ring.
Hope that helps some?
Debby
