Krazy Bout K9s

by Krazy Bout K9s on 06 March 2012 - 05:03

These are radiographs from a local vet...Dog is jumping 5 foot fences, and getting away, thus the rescue part...any comments??? The people had the dog xrayed....he is about 15 months old, kept getting out of his environment which is why I got him into rescue...I told the people we don't garauntee hips...we can't afford to radiograph all dogs....they just did it to SEE....
Thanks,
Steph

Steph,

well I think that he needs to go to a home where he will swim and be on quality food, kept lean and with moderate exercise, nothing heavy. He should be a happy dog. Other than that, Max doesn't know he has bad hips..

That is what I figured, he is in a home, the people went ahead with the xrays...thanks, steph
Their vet told them he had MAYBE 2 good years left....grrrrrr

bad hips but as already said - Max didn't see the x-rays.  In the picture he's sitting square underneath him, and the jumping indicates  he's not having any pain or trouble being active and strong behind - yet.  He could live a full long life if the owners keep him lean and in good physical shape, try to control the jumping, lots of long, slow type of exercise (long walks,  hikes, swimming, not as much chasing ball/starting/stopping and fast/sprint) - and give him some joint supplements.  No reason to believe he will start having problems until he's much older, maybe never.  The only thing these hips tell me is that he should be neutered.

wow..those are some huge, heavy looking leg bones...it's almost looks like a female body with male legs...i mean they are just big...completely un proportional...how odd....hope he will have a good life w/o surgeries and pain meds...who knows, he may just be able to get by...
