Well I will certainly be watching it with interest. I know that most breeders are totally against it, and many joined the campaign to try and stop this programme being made…...  The Kennel Club too closed ranks with the breeders to withhold co-operation.

You only have to read the thread about the BOB collie at Westminster being sired by a blind and deaf stud dog to know that there is something seriously wrong in the world of dog breeding that isn’t going away.

If breeders themselves will not police their breeding practices and protect their breeds from extremes instead of indulging them, programmes like this can and should highlight the issues and continue to be made. JMO.

Just a reminder, it's on tonight.

There will be a further 10 minutes or so about GSDs which was cut from the programme, due to overrun, which will be put on to youtube. Don't lknow when it will go on there, but if I hear I will put up a link.

Thanks Abby.  Such a shame it had to be cut from the broadcast

Indeed it is. However, having watched the programme I must admit I didn't see anything else that I thought should have been cut, it was all important stuff. I thought the sections on the brachycephalic breeds very concerning (again), and the operations done by the German surgeon and his comments very interesting, but so sad. No, I think what was left in was correct. I think in any case the lack of co-operation by the GSD breeder involved in the clip and the KC's comparable lack of co-operation in the whole programme (!) probably made the GSD bit fairly irrelevant and uninteresting anyway. We all know there has been little or no change.

I thought it was a shame when comparisons were being made between show examples and working examples of the breeds that GSDs weren't included with examples of show and working, but there you go.

I agreed with the statement that it is becoming more evident that the welfare of dogs needs to be taken away from both the Kennel Club and the Breed Clubs - who work for their own interests, and not the dogs in the vast majority of cases. There is too much of a conflict of interest.

Hmm, you obviously know more on the GSD element than me.

I personally would have cut down a bit on the PDE1 repeats to include the GSD but otherwise yes, I think a great programme delivering an important message to the public.
