Terri, I think so,  I had a doggy with the same problem and the doctor removed the liquid with a syringe from her elbow, it was to relieve pain and to diagnosticate  any  infection. Besides he prescribed her medication. Good luck!

I haven't seen this on a dog but my husband had this on his knee and YES he had to have the fluid removed.  They removed 150 CCs and then he went back two more times.  The fluid was examined to rule out infection.

Terry yes it is ok if your vet is skilled at removing the fluid. Best is if the vet also injects a local steroid to prevent inflammation  recurring  after the shot that withdrew the bursal fluid.

HiTerry, I think you should await the results of the medications, and then  I would  consider the possibility of local infiltration but let's wait to see what the doctor say.

good luck!
