Please pray this case goes nowhere. The implications for domestic animals is frightening. Next, PETA will be arguing that THEY are slaves, too!

Animals are not people for heavens sakes!  The do not require "rights".  Animal welfare yes....rights no... Every time one of these Orca is released things go horribly wrong.  Whales that have had human contact get hurt or die when they are released.  Look at our Local Luna, this poor fella was so used to humans that he was hit by a tugboat and killed.   Peta will not be happy until all animals have been release back in the wilds ( insert sarcasm here)  I do not believe that our man made pets will last, how long do these dopes figure a dairy cow would last in the wild... Humans are stewards for the animals.  It is our job as humans.  Do these goons really think my weiner dog, who sleeps in my bed, gets picked up and put on the couch. Who gets fed 2 daily and gets her pooped picked up is a slave? me thinks it is the other way around.

Is it possible the judge wants to set the record straight and put PETA in its place?  I'm surprised it was not thrown out, but his accepting it makes me wonder what his motivations are.  I personally think its to close the book on this aurgment.  If he rules animal have no rights and are property, I HIGHLY doubt a higher court would rule otherwise on appeal.  There simply to much money in animal ownership.  I have rarely seen a judge that rules in favor of disrupting commerce, in any sector.

Its been resolved:

The judge said, "orcas had no standing to seek the same constitutional rights as people".

I don't agree with PETA and their over-the-top philosophy, but I don't think whales should be kept in captivity. Of course, the whales that are presently in captivity should not be released because they would likely not survive. Here is an interesting interview with a person who was a former trainer at SeaWorld. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/09/killer-whale-trainer

Char, I agree with you about the whales. But we all know where Peta would try to take this if the whales were granted constitutional rights. Their goal is to outlaw ALL ownership of animals.

Sunsilver, At one time, MANY years ago, I belonged to PETA, but I came to realize their beliefs and mine are just too far apart.
