Upper Bucks Schutzhund Club 3rd Annual Schutzhund Olympics - Page 1

Hi Everyone:

Our club would like to announce we set the date for our 3rd Annual Schutzhund Olympics benefiting the American Cancer Society via the Bark for Life of Pottstown, PA.

When:  April 15, 2012

Where:  UB Schutzhund Club field, Harleysville, PA

Competitions as follows:

Highest # of retrieves
Rocket Recall
Fastest Blind Search
Most barks in a hold and bark
Fastest jump sequence

Prizes (1rst thru 3rd) awarded for each exercise

This year we are adding a "Senior" blind search for dogs over age 9. 

Please consider coming out and representing our sport by supporting such a great cause.

Last year we raised $1,725 during the one day event and our goal is to double that this year!

Information, registration and detailed description of the event will be posted on the UB Schutzhund club website within the next few days.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I'd recomend a "Best Long Bite" catagory in your Olympics. That would bring out some serious dogs and a ton of spectators.

Thanks Rick.  I always wanted to add that but didn't know the best and fair way to judge it.  All the events we created have a count or time associated with it to make it easier to determine winners, etc.  Would you have a few judges that issue scores and take the highest average at the end to determine the winners?

It is nice to add something new each time as I don't want people to get bored with the same old exercises.

This sounds REALLY cool Cheryl--I'm in the southeastern PA area, but haven't been out to Upper Bucks since 06, I think.  My 9 year old has been doing police K-9 too long to participate in any of the excercises, unless you have a senior version of the rocket recall, so I'll probably come by as a spectator.  Maybe you can do a Model-T recall. . .?

Hi Scott:

We added a "Senior" Blind Search.  I am sure everyone would love to add the "Senior" recall.  We have plenty of prizes so would be great to see some of the older dogs participate.

Long bite could be time from start to helper. Set up two points on the ground. One for the handler, one the helper. Start when the dog leaves the handler and stop when the dog hits the sleeve. It would not take into account the essence of the exercise but would be one way to score it.
