Would you settle for a 5 yr old explosives detection dog, imported from Belgium, who used to work the White House before he killed a stupid cat? I suspect he could be cross trained in a very short time. He is available for adoption with Rescued Helpers, Inc, a very reputable 501c3 organization in AZ. Contact Nadine Karsever or Steve Crye.

He is healthy, strong, great with kids and other dogs, house-broken, being fostered by an ex-military handler till a good home is found for him.
I am told he has learned to ignore cats.
If I had a place where I could have more than one GSD, I would grab him in a heartbeat.
His name is Arco.

Cats aren't stupid. It's not nice to put it that way especially if it was someone's pet. Either way I hope Arco finds a good home.

The one that dog killed was pretty stupid, in fact. Either that, or it was suicidal.

Maybe he was just used to dogs who didn't try to kill him. I had a wonderful cat killed by a dog who ripped off a door and came inside. The cat never had any experience with dogs like that and was just sitting on the counter, totally oblivious that there were dogs who would kill cats. He was by no means stupid. He simply thought he was safe in his own home.

Same here Jenni. One of my favorite cats was killed by a dog. By no means was he a stupid cat, but he was raised around cat friendly dogs. It was a very sad day. I just don't understand undermining someones pet who was killed in a freak accident. I feel sorry for any one who loses a pet.

Couldn't agree more, Kelly & Jen. I know my Cheyanne is very dog-friendly, but then again I almost pity the dog that tries anything with her, LOL.
At any rate, I would be devastated if I lost her due to some dog. I don't care what kind of dog, where it worked or whose it was. Why degrade a poor pet who has never known any better? Had the dog been raised right, there wouldn't have been a problem, IMO.

"Had the dog been raised right, there wouldn't have been a problem, IMO."
Has nothing to do with whether or not the dog was 'raised right'--it has to do with whether he'd ever been exposed to cats, and the intensity of his prey drive. Blaming the dog is as ridiculous as blaming the cat he killed--neither one was at fault, and there are some dogs who just can't keep their prey switch from tripping when a cat runs from them, no matter how much conditioning and training you do with them. Doesn't make them bad dogs...just dogs that shouldn't be off-lead anyplace there might be a cat... And apparently, Arco has now been taught that cats are not prey.

I am TRYING to find an excellent, loving, very deserving dog a wonderful forever home, with someone RESPONSIBLE who UNDERSTANDS such a dog... NOT to debate anyone's feelings about CATS.

I started a new thread for this dog.
BTW- I have had lots of much loved cats.
That said, I will not stand by and allow a good dog to be PTS simply because he/she has the high level of prey drive we working folks like to see, but was never properly introduced to cats.
Further, a cat that sachets along backyard fence-top, taunting such a dog while it goes balllistic, then falls on wrong side of fence... well...
