I've been feeding Acana for about a year and a half and have had no major issues. Good stool, nice coat, no problems. Well, the only store around that carries it is small and privately owned, so they don't over stock. The last time I went they didn't have the formula that I normally feed, Pacifica. I had a choice between Grasslands and Wild Prairie and chose the latter. Since the change, I've noticed that he is pooping constantly! He needs go to out more often and every time I take him out he poops, more than 5 times in one day. The stool is more compact and he seems to be eliminating smaller amounts at a time. On the other formula, he usually pooped once a day, occasionally twice.
Since I was really low on the Pacifica, the switch was sudden and I worried about digestive upset, but other than him turning into a poop factory, he doesn't seem to have any other issues.
Is this an indication of a problem, or that one formula is better for him than the other? If so, which would you think is the better of the two, based on stool alone?

Mine are also on the Acana Pacifica and i also at one time had to get the Wild Prairie and basically got the same result. Although there was a little softer than normal.
I actually took it back...lol
My stores pretty good with stuff like that so i took it back and headed into the city to get the pacifica. I am not sure what it is that did it to mine. I thought at the time it is just to rich maybe.?

Well, at least I know it's happened to someone else! He's been on it for over two weeks and I was wondering if it was just the formula change, hoping he would adjust. I wouldn't feel right taking it back at this point and I can't afford to waste it, so I'll let him finish it. I'm calling ahead to have them hold a bag of Pacifica and I'll probably pick it up this week. Maybe I could mix them to get a happy medium.
Thanks for responding, appreciate it!

I use Acana Wild Prairie and the dogs go twice a day, no more.

No Problem:) Funny how they just gotta be so picky sometimes. Cant make life easy that if we run out or the store runs out that we can buy them anything...Nope that would be just way to easy:)

I wouldn't base it on the food alone. The dog's digestive enzymes and bacteria have only been used to digesting one kind of food, when introduced to something new it takes them awhile to change and be able to fully digest the new food.

1GSD1, if it's the formula, I'm sure it's a weird reaction from something in him not agreeing with the formula. I agree with EuroShepherd. His stool is similar to what it was for the short time I tried a raw diet. So, I don't think it's necessarily bad, but it's a pain in the butt. I live in a townhouse, with no fence, so I have to take him out on a long line. He's got me jumping up like a jack-in-the-box. The first day it happened, I felt pretty bad. He'd been out about 90 minutes before and had pooped, which is usually good enough for at least 4 to 6 hours. Well, I ignored him and he nudged me before racing to the door to because he had to vomit. But if he needs out and can get out, that's his M.O. He hates to make a mess in the house and will do anything he can to avoid it, to a point of making him nauseaus. Sure enough, when I got him outside, he went straight up the hill and pooped again. And so it's been for two weeks, 5 to 6 times a day. And his stool is always hard, dry, compact and much less in content.
gsdlvr, too funny, and it's the truth.
