Wondering what are the different tpyes of Malinois.  I have heard of KNPV and FCI and French.  Are FCI and French dogs one in the same?  Is their a dramatic difference in working quality between KNPV and FCI?  I have heard some go with FCI as they are pappered if they go into Schutzhund.  KNPV usually are unpapered.  Is the working difference as dramitic as GSD working/show line?

I have owned both show and working line Malinois.  Never again will I own a show line Mal, the temperament is vastly different.  The workingline dogs in my opinion are much more mentally stable.

There are different types of Malinois, as you mentioned French, Dutch, Belgian, and even IPO; but there are even variations within those groups depending on the specific lines. Some of the types are getting blurred due to breeding of the regional types together.

Belgian Dogs tend to be large, stable, deep grips, strong jumpers.
French dogs tend to be lighter, agile, very fast, also strong jumpers.
Dutch dogs vary in size but tend to be powerfully built, stable, strong/pushing grip like the Belgians.

Judy
by show lines do you mean FCI?  Or is show a sub category of FCI?
How does mental instability look like in your particular dog?

John
Do French lines tend to be the more nervy types?
And of course we are speaking in broad generalities, before someone esle mentions that.

FCI is a large breed organization just like AKC, CKC, UKC, or NHSB, NVBK, LOSH some of the mentioned organizations fall under the FCI. The difference in Malinois often dependes on what region you are in. Like the post above you have Belgian lines, French lines, Dutch lines, German lines, American lines ect.... For the differences it often falls on the actual Kennel you look at purchasing a dog from. Every breeder tends to like certain traits that they tend to bring forth in their puppies, often the region does make much of a difference but what it really boils down to is the specific kennel.
