Since a couple of months, PDB is sometimes offline, I get this message:

Website Offline, No Cached Version Available

The website you are trying to access is currently offline. The most likely causes are the server is down for maintenance, there may be a network problem, or the site may be experiencing excessive load.

The site uses CloudFlare in order to help keep it online when the server is down by serving cached copies of pages where they are available. Unfortunately, a cached copy of the page you requested is not available, but you may be able to reach other cached pages on the site.

If you continue to receive this error after you believe the site is back online, you can

I got the same message a few days ago. I figured Oli must be doing some work on the site. (I live in USA)

Getting this as well at times. Besides the site laods anywhere between very fast to timing out and having to re-load. This is utterly anoying needless to say. I have cable (USA-NC) and PDB is the only site its happening with. Other sites loading normal even when I open them at the same time with PDB.

Sites have problems. Hosting companies have problems. Internet service providers have problems.

Cloud flare is more or less a firewall for this site. It helps to keep people like our friend the flooder from doing his thing and it also allows cached versions of the site to be shown when the site is down.

Reasons for recent down time include but are not limited to: 1. Oli doing some major work on the site. 2. Oli's hosting company moved and we had about 5 or 6 hours of downtime. 3. Like all of us Oli has power failures and accidental things happen. 4. Failure of automated log in scripts.

While this may not be all the reasons it gives some explanation to the down time.

Slowness can be caused by a large load on the server, a large load on the ISP, Oli working on the site and a whole bunch of reasons.

I do know Oli has talked about a major upgrade to the server, which he is thinking about doing but it costs a lot of money. This major upgrade would allow the site to have enough hard drive space for the next 10 years.
