By definition, "chicken" is a moist product and contains a lot of water, may be 75%, but "chicken meal" and "chicken by-product" meal are dry product with little water.
So if the first listed ingredient is "chicken", it does not mean that most protein is from chicken. In fact, it is never.
Say for a high protein formula that has no soy and little corn, ingredient list that is "chicken, chicken-meal ...." means likely most protein comes from "chicken meal".
Those who are trained in science will find this very strange, but this is the way it is.
