I was checking out local kennels, to see what the competition has been up to, and came across this:

Boarding at Country Estate Kennels for most of our guests is $35.00 + HST per calendar day (minimum of 2 days) and we offer a discount for multiple pet families.

However for dogs who display aggressive behaviour / that are intact (not spayed or neutered) / less than 8 months old OR are of the following breeds: Akita, German Sheppard, Doberman, Pit Bull/Staffordshire, Bullterrier, Bullmastiff, Rottweiler, Great Dane, Giant Schnauzer, Malamute etc... boarding rates are $40.00 + HST per day. The tiered pricing reflects the additional attention required to care for the aforementioned conditions and breeds to ensure the safety and well being of all of our guests.

In the year and a half I have been running this place, I have not had a single problem with a GSD, or ANY of the listed breeds! (Okay pit bulls are banned in Ontario, but we have had a few mixes sneak in, under the guise of 'boxer' or 'bulldog' mixes.) The only nips I've had had been from spoilt rotten lap dogs, and a really crazy boxer that was a rescue. The only real bite I've had was from my partner's mini pin! (She was in pain at the time.)

And certainly, any dog that is intact is more than welcome here!  We'll just make sure we keep it well away from our intact, in-heat bitches!
 

The minute people successfully ban "pit bulls," they will start on all the other breeds that don't act like golden retrievers. THAT is exactly why you should fight pit bull bans. When it comes time for German "Sheppards" to be treated unfairly like that, you'll be booing the same hoo that pit people cry now, that it's not fair to ban whole breeds based on the actions of a few members. No dog person should support that kind of crap, and I wouldn't take a dang poodle to a boarding facility like that. Obviously they don't know much about dogs.

I think I'll pay them a little visit, with my two very well behaved German 'sheppards' in tow!

Yes, someone who can't even spell 'shepherd' properly doesn't know a heck of a lot about dogs! 

BTW, there have been numerous campaigns by dog owners to get the pit bull legislation overturned, but that is a whole 'nother topic. I have some mixed feelings about the ban myself. I look at shelters in the States that are crammed full of pits and pit mixes which probably are going to be euthanized, and wonder if Ontario did do the breed a favour after all. No, I am NOT in favour of the ban, but can't come up with a workable way of stopping the drug pedlars who strut their pitties on fancy leashes and studded collars, and chain them outside to protect their property from the cops, and of course, breed them indiscriminately with no regard for pedigrees or health testing. Or of stopping the underground dog fighting rings, which have probably just changed to other breeds.

I did not go to the link but I do have a friend who will not board GSDs due to her experience with them being destructive.  Obviously not every GSD is a kennel destroyer but it is her choice as a business owner to be up front on the types of dogs she will accept and not accept.  FWIW, she loves the breed and has several friends who either own or raise GSDs - she just does not want to care for the when their owners go out of town :-p

My experience with dog fostering is that GSDs are a lot harder to look after than pits, so i guess I'd be agreeing with you, Psycht. Even though I have four GSDs of my own.

Nope, can't see old Two Moons paying that sort of lucre to board his K9!    Unless he's gone   

BTW, I am about to ban boxers from my kennel. So far this year, I've been bitten by one, and had him scare the crap out of me. A second one that just went home destroyed two sliding doors, AND broke a window!

Insurance Commission in the State of Florida will not insure homeowners if they have: Pit Bulls or any other "Bully Breed" such as Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Terriers, American Terriers, etc; Presa Canarios, Mastiffs, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers, Chowchow, Akitas, Alaskan Malmutes, Siberian Huskies, German Shepherds & Dutch Shepherds; Wolf Hybrids; or any mix of the afore mentioned breeds; any dog resembling the afore mentioned breeds.  So if you have some Heinz 57 that you don't have a clue what is in it and the neighbor thinks it looks like one of the above breeds, it is catagorized as resembling the breed.  Doesn't matter how well trained the dog is.  Many of the Home Owner Associations have specific bylaws that ban specific breeds or to be "fair" any dogs over 25lbs.  My parents have some friends that have Bull Terriers and have lived in the house for years, their HOA just banned the breed and gave the owners a choice of "finding the dogs a new forever home, or moving out and selling their home".

I have heard the famous excuses of "If the police use German Shepherds for catching criminals it is because they are an inherently vicious breed able to stand up to criminals", "Pit bull like dogs have locking jaws", "These breeds bite until their teeth meet and can't let go until that happens", and other stupid uneducated comments.

Many of the big insurance companies have had this policy for a long time. They haven't consistently enforced it, but they are doing so more and more now.

It's racism, but not new.  In fact, purebred dog activities are in general "racist".  In fact, some people get more indignant about cross breeding than Mississippians get about miscegenation. (40% still think it should be illegal.) Most of us say things about breeds of dogs we long ago learned was unacceptable about humans.  I heard a woman at a dog show say yellow labs were slower thinkers than black labs.  What's more racist than that?
