I've owned wolf/shepherd crosses for years and have never seen SO much information about them on any website. Catania continued the dog breeding project and finally arrived at a 25% wolf/ 75% shepherd mix-NOT hybrid as wolves are of the SAME species. The wolf had to be from a male wolf. The idea was to develope a dog refreshing the genes that would be hardier and not subject to the dysplasia and disorders AKC's silly confirmation preferences have caused. The project failed during the allotted time because they did not realize a female wolf in the breeding would be more shy and less likely to  be assertive. I have had 50% crosses-with  high percentage wolf crosses it is practically impossible to build compulsions as you do regular dogs-meaning they did what you asked when it suited them. You could play fetch with one but invariably when they got tired they would stop and could not be coerced to continue as a dog with compulsions might. Those I have had with lower percentages were easier to train. Males could be agressive-but that is desireable to some people-NEVER unpredictable. I had some- 25-35% mixes-that hunted upland game birds ADMIRABLY, pulled sleds ans worked stock. ALL dogs and wolfdogs can be agressive to people or other animals if not socialized properly as anyone that has read of wandering dog attacks knows.  Wolfdogs suffer from the same maladies any dog suffers from-ignorance and the inability of some people to rear an animal properly.

I would rather have the pure wolf and treat it as such, rather than a mix or hybrid that would for me at least be unpredictable.

I have owned a high percentage hybrid and have had some experience to draw from.

ggtutner - what do you have against Czechoslovakian wolfdog? This breed is officially registered, its history started in 1955 and the people who were involved in creating this breed had lots, lots of knowledge on breeding and genetics. Nowadays,if the breeders want to have registered pups, both dam and sire must fulfill certain requirements - take part in at least 2 exhibitions, have x-rays done with A or B stamp, pass 40 km endurance test plus a breed survey test. Sire must be at least 24 months old and dam at least 18 months old.
