My black and white Jack Russell, Mickey Finn, needs a touch up, *blush*.
He's black at the top and tail, white on the body, and going prematurely grey atop his little head and ears. That, and the sun-bleaching? Not so dapper as he once was. I was thinking of giving him a touch-up, just for fun, but I don't know of anything dog-friendly to use.
I got some Black-on-Black shampoo; which didn't do anything despite hype and claims.
His white parts also need some sparkle; his ability to find the nearest mud or manuer and romp in it not-withstanding, he's a bit drab looking in the white spots. He looks a bit like a two-tone shirt that's been washed using non-colour-safe detergent, lol.
Any suggestions?
(ps: Yes, he always looks that scruffy. I can brush him out, which might last a whole day if I'm lucky. He's my scruffy little ratdog ^_^)

Jc carrol,
He looks beautiful to me the way he is, I am absolutely against using cosmetics on pets for fun. Excuse me for saying that.

Not me, I love this stuff....Sorry Ibrahim..;)
I should say that as long as you use safe products and are very very careful...
There is a product called Spray and White by Mane and Tail that really brightens up light coats. We use it on our Mare before shows to remove urine stains on her tail and dirt from her light gray coat.. I do not use much in the way of color dyes, but I have colored our mares mane and tail with Clairol hair dye. It would be very important to keep all these products out of the eyes...I am sure you know that, but I want to mention it anyway.

I am with Ibrahim, totally unnecessary, and not worth the risk to the dog.

I don't want to actually dye him per se; just make him look neater. I wouldn't want to use anything strong on him. He doesn't have any undercoat, so there's really nothing to protect his skin from dye, or anything else. Little guy wears shirts at the beach, lest he sunburn; and in the winter he wears a jacket and/or a sweater so he stays warm. I tell people, when they give me "the look" for dressing up my dog, that his fur is for decoration only, but in terms of function it's a bit lacking.
Ibrahim,
No worries. Mickey Finn was quite happy to hear you like him as is ^_^
Ruger1,
I'll have to see if I can find some Spray and White. Thanks!

To maintain the color of a terrier with that type of coat you need to hand strip it. The color will come back

Just what Kim said you can strip him. That will bring the color back in to the orginal color. If you want a quick fix you can go here http://www.klippers.com/OnlineStore/ColorProducts/tabid/63/Default.aspx. They are colors that people use on dogs for Grooming Compititions.

Stripping will make the black more intense. As for the white, a few drops of bluing in the shampoo will enhance that. Word to the wise however - to much bluing in your shampoo will turn your dog blue.

We used to use Whisk on horses socks/stockings. Really got them white, not sure about safety.

I see no problem with correcting an error of nature.
