I have a question for a friend that has a blood hound female, about 3 y/o. The dog in the past has had issues with ear infections and eye infections and needs daily treatment for the eyes. My friend was going away for a week and noticed two small lumps on the dogs face. When she came back the dogs ears were worse than ever, and she had more lumps. There are now atleat 8 lumps, the two on her face, two (which are comprised of multiple small lumps) on her neck near her lymph nodes, on her shoulders, and on her rear.
They took her to the vet and they first did a blood test, which looked good, every thing was in range and white blood cells were at a normal level. They thought it might be lymphoma and were going to biopsy, but when they had her under, there was a ton of bleeding in her lymph nodes and he wasnt sure he could stop the bleeding so the vet did not proceed. He called them hemoragic lymph nodes. Instead he did fine needle aspiration, a radio graph (which looked normal) and sent something to cytology (sp?). I am not familiar with these tests, so not sure if if fine needle aspriation is involved with the cytology (sp?). The results wont be back for a couple more days.
At home the dog is lethargic, breathing harder, but still eating well. She is having normal stool, and her ears have improved with some washes and care. The only difference in feeding has been supplementing with some recreational raw beef bones. The dog is utd on vaccines, etc.
So my question is, what do you think is the problem? Does it sounds like lymphoma? What about a infection in the lymph nodes? Any other questions she should ask the vet or tests that should be done? What about diseases, like distemper, anthrax? Thanks so much for any insight you can give!!!!!!!

Not sure about other things but you need to wait for the lab tests and not speculate. I would also get this dog a chest x-ray to see if there is anything in the lungs that looks suspicious. That would be my next step. Best of luck Nan
