WooHoo everyone we got rain in southern OK today. Only about 1/2" but it was so nice--any little bit can help. Also the heat days for my town was 42 in a row over 100--it broke that cause I think we only got up to 86 or so. When the dogs and I went out after supper I was actually a little chilly sitting outside..........

I feel so blessed with abundant water back here on the East Coast. We are having stellar summer days. Just clear blue skies with no humidity.
heartGlad you found a bit of relief, let's hope there is more wet stuff heading your way, TX, too, without being a hurricane!

Glad ya'll got some of the rain you needed. The weather is PERFECT here in Northern CA, has been for weeks. Sunshine every day, not too hot, (low for the season at 80's-90's) low humidity... Nights in the 50's, usualy with a breeze.
Rain? You gotta be kidding. It almost never rains here between May-June and October-November.

Why I ever left this place to live East of the Rockies, stayed away so long, I have NO idea. Don't look for me to go back to live with ALL THAT WEATHER ever again. This Cali Girl is happy right where she is.
:-)

Bee you do need to send us some of that rain and send some cooler weather too!!!!!!
Shelley lucky you. I wouldn't mind it not raining so much except it is so hot here and we have the big drought going on............I was watching a program the other night on NatGeo about Big Sur and I was thinking how nice the weather is there and wishing for just a couple of Big Sur days!!!!!

Vonissk..... it is still raining!  My cherry tomatoes will all be splits by the time it stops.  heart

Luckily, I traded my squash for eggplants, so I guess I'll be making some eggplant parmesean, or ratatouille, perhaps?

Mmmmmm sounds good. I've only had eggplant one time and it was breaded and fried. I liked it very much so I bet I'd like some of your creations. I was going to tell you on that sqush thread to send some of that yellow squash over--my favorite veggie........................

by beetree on 15 August 2011 - 23:08

Oh yes, first you dip it in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs, fried to a golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel.  Layer with eggplant, sauce, mozz, parmesean, repeat, with the final layer ending with the cheeses. Bake covered about an hour in 375 oven. Remove foil, last ten minutes of cooking. Outstanding, if I say so myself.  Oh, and Grandma insisted on 4C's flavored breadcrumbs, only.

I made a strange pie once with layered yellow squash, when you cut it it looked real cool, like layered bricks. I thought it was good, but the kids... not so much. Hard to do a repeat if no one appreciates the work.

When I lived on m litle farm in PA it seemed like my (acre or so of) tomatoes split every freaking year. No problem. I picked them before they started to rot and tossed them in the dehydrator. Dried tomatoes are wonderful in salads, pastas, rice dishes, and make a super snack by the handful.
