just got ny completely housebroken 6 mnth Female GSD back from 5 days @ the kennel. Dog returned very thin. Inn keeper claimed he fed 3 meals per day.  last 4 out of 5 nights dogs has had diarehea in crate and outside.  Don't believe she back-slid in her House training. No accidents while loose around house indoors. Could she have picked up a parasite? UTD on shots and worms.
Kennel houses chickens as well as horses too.  Thoughts?

If it is really diarrhea (not just loose stool), I'd be concerned about dehydration after 4 days.  I would take a fecal sample to the vet.  They probably won't find anything, but if you explain the dog has had diarrhea for 4 days they might give you some metronidazole/flagl.  This clears up a lot of parasites (but not all....so if it doesn't work the dog may have something like giardia, which is better if you use panacur).  If it is not diarrhea (not liquid all the time), then perhaps the dog was just stressed?

Stress and change of food are the two biggest problems you will see with a dog in a boarding situation.  Sometime the kennel will feed the wrong food ( by accident) and you will have a mess on your hands.  I took a dog to a kennel last year for 10 days .  I was shocked when i saw her.  She worried the weight right off!  Not the kennels fault at all.

Same thing happens with my pup.
If I leave her at the kennel for even a day, she will work herself up.
She'll have diarrhea for at least 2-3 days after she comes back.

Sounds like my life right now:(
Does the poop smell worse than normal poop and does it have a slimy look to it?

My dogs all currently have Giardia and not saying thats whats going on but thats how the puppies started. Unable to hold it all night long and pudding is the way i describe the poop with a very slimy look to it.
Both the puppies lost a significant amnt of weight in a few days.

I would for sure take a sample in and have it checked.

But it could be what the above are saying as we'll. Someone messed up on what food and or the stress of being away from you.

Some dogs just don't do well in the kennel environment, especially if there are a lot of dogs, activity, etc. Mine did fine as long as the kennel was quiet and unattended all night, so they got some rest, but when they were in a place where the kennel owner did all kinds of stuff when dogs and people are usually sleeping, they did VERY poorly.

pepsid works wonders for a stressed out dog ......
same with pumpkin.....

Thanx for the advice. At first I assumed it was from stress, but after 5-6 days I'm beginning to wonder.
She's been on Chicken and rice(real) since she got back, but it still won't bind her. she was @ the vet the day before she was kenneled. I ordered Panacur 2 days ago, waiting for it to arrive.
Not blaming the kennel at all, I'm sure she had seperation anxiety while there. No fear of dehydration at this point, urine is clear. eating the C/R mix fine, just squirting it out. Anyone know of a specific parasite chickens/horses could pass on to canines?

coccidiosis  is the big one that spreads from chickens.

For me, it's worth it to pay someone to come to my home several times/day to take care of my dogs.  I haven't kenneled in years-just not worth the dog's stress.
