One of our Bitches has decided she will only eat Tinned CHAPPIE Dog Food, nothing else no additional Biscuit, just the sticky lump of Chappie!!!!
This has only a Protein level of 6%
What do you think will be the long term affect on her if she continues on this food??

A dog will not starve itself. She has trained you well.
I would put down her dry food in her bowl, no added anything, for 10 minutes. Pick up whatever she does not eat. Put down
the remainder of what she left for her next meal and so on and so forth until she finishes it. This may take a few days to a week
for her to be hungry enough to eat the regular dog food, but it will happen.

I agree with Melissa.
.... but, that said; plenty of dogs survive perfectly well on Chappie and have done for generations. Early 80's I had a heinz 57 that lived til he was 14/15, having spent half his life on the streets as a latchkey dog. When we took him in, Chappie was the only food that he'd eat, until he developed a taste for spam!.
Did I mention though that i agree with Melissa? :D

I've owned quite a few dogs over the years. I decide what they are going to eat. haven't lost one yet.

It's a fish and rice based tinned food made by Pedigree Petfoods, was commonly recommended by vets for dogs with senstive digestions for donkeys years until Hills took over the surgeries with their prescription diets.
It has been around for at least 50 years and plenty of dogs have been fed on it all their lives. You could always contact the manufacturer, detail your dogs lifestyle and ask them if they would recommend it for your dog.

Unless your dog is ailing SICK, then it should eat its food it is given, IF it does not eat then it simply is not hungry enough, You are spoiling the dog by coaxing it to eat, how many times does this damn well happen A dog will NEVER go hungry it may sulk if it does not get its own way but if you put the normal food down in front of it give it two minutes only to start eating. If it does not then take the food away next meal the same.
Do not give it one bite of anything else after a day or two it will eat, No question you are overfeeding your dogs that is a Sin to do that
If the dog is not sick then that's it let it go without for a day or so it will eat a healthy Dog will not go hungry for long,
Not the answer you want to here but it is the correct one,
There are to many Pampered Dogs in this World who run there soft owners ragged and the owner does not realise it is happening,
If they could do it some dogs would put the collar on there Owners and take them for a daily walk.

Steve1, Rik, and Melissa are right. Only provide your dog with the food you want to feed her and she will eventually get hungry enough and eat it.
Steve1, sadly it's the same with many parents today as well--too many of them spoil their kids. A spoiled dog is annoying, but a spoiled kid can become an intolerable adult.

that i certainly agree with The children today have to much of everything and that includes food
I remember when i was a kid not so long after WW11, i used to ask my Mum
What have we for tea Mum, Her reply was IF ITS'
Meaning if i have it you will have it to We lived on Bread and Dripping in those days quite a lot that is if you could get the bread. We had ration books right through to 1955 then things were not so great But we grew up to appreciate the small and simple things they gave us great pleasure. Today it is so different but thats the changing world. For a Dog, feed regular but miss a day here and there, and feed only what it needs to keep healthy, same applies to us Humans
Nothing lives to EAT, We EAT only to Live.
My last post for a day or so i am now getting ready to go off to Germany near the Austrian Border to pick up my Puppy Hektor, I hope to be home by tomorrow evening it is a non stop trip must get home to feed the Pigeons tomorrow evening and i have to take my two dogs with me in a trailer, no one to look after them So regular stops every two hours for them
