I just don't see why so many people stand in defence of this breed!

ehhhh whatever. Give a dumb ass a gsd and the attack would be worse(atleast I hope so). Blame the owner.

How do you call it a Pit Bull attack when no one got bit, until the property owners dog was stupid enough to try and take the Pit on? If that pit was a serious threat, the mutt would have more than a few puncture holes and a bum ear. And the property owners got the pit chained to a fence, with no bites? Give me a break, just because it was a stray pit, didn't mean it was going to eat the family like the big bad wolf. Talk about wild assumptions!

Doesn't mean it was a pit, either. A lot of folks can't tell the difference between a pit and a boxer or any other short coated, even remotely bully looking dog. Crappy reporter with a slow news day, imo.

while I don't own one...I have friends that have absolutely beautiful pitbulls and I'd trust them with anyone. The press has done soo much damage to the breed. Your breed could be next!

I don't want to see anyone's breed's name dragged through the dirt. 

I teach group obedience classes and the #1 breed that gets a "bad-rap" reaction from the general public/observers is pits, but the #2 is the GSD! =[ That's why I try to emphasize not only to owners but to the general public that responsible dog ownership is the important thing, not the breed. 

The single most important determining factor in whether a dog is going to seriously injure or kill a human being is whether the dog is a family dog maintained inside the house and given regular care and attention or a resident dog kept permanently confined outside with little attention and socialization. 

I also agree with VonIsengard and 4Pack- a dog that seriously wanted to hurt or kill someone or the mutt would've done so, and the odds that it was a pit bull are kinda hit or miss. 

Don't know how many of you have been around Pit Bulls very much...but most of them are Great Dogs...I mean absolutely Great Dogs...But it is the Press that has given them such a bad rap because of what people have done with and to them...You could ask the same thing about our German Shepherds...they have just as bad a rap...but the Press hasn't focused on them as much...But any breed could be the target of such bad PR...
I always feel bad for the dogs when something has happened...because of what "PEOPLE" have done to them...
I'm not saying it's the people's fault who are getting attacked by these dogs...but it is the people's fault who own them and/or have taught them and bred them for certain things...Like chasing and catching something that moves...like hogs....but even our German Shepherds chase things and will hunt it down...

I wish I had read the article before posting, my bad. I agree with V I, and 4pack, I doubt that pit was really attacking.
