This is along the lines of my other topic "odd breeds to earn schutzhund titles".
Well, whats the oldest dog you've seen get any schutzhund title (in years).

My dog V-Eagle v Eichenluft Schh3 (25X), FH2,IPO3,KKl-1 - competed at his last trial, which was a National-level Schh3 trial, at 9 years old. He also acted as "dummy dog" at the AWDF National Championships when he was 9.5, the same trial he was FH Champion.
I also recall there being an older dog competing in the WUSV in Boston - 11 years old? I may be incorrect with the age but I know there was an old dog there competing.

One of my dogs' dam just earned her first SchH3 and she is 7 years old. I don't really consider that old but now that you mention it all the other dogs I see title are younger (or, are dogs that are competining SchH3 over and over, not their first).

earning a title means the first title? each title isn't earned?

Reading it, I would think it is first earning it, not repetitive over and over trials for same title, but maybe the op can clarify?
There is an owner on here her dog getting first sch 3 soon and I think he is 7? could be wrong.

I was thinking both:
1) first title, ever
2) last/latest title, no repeats.
Back to eichenluft's comment. I would consider 11 to be pretty old for a GSD in competition of any kind, he must have been in very good condition.

I think any time a dog gets the min. score it "earns" the title. I was simply making the distinction than an older dog earning a SchH3 might have been SchH3 at 2 years old.

I did a schH II on my dog 2 months before she turned 9. I never trialed for a III with her though. Oh well. and I don't think 9 is particularly old to do a trial.

It might be interesting to make a count on how many dogs achieve (for the first time or repeat title) any Schh title at age 9+. I betcha not too many :)
9 is very old for a Schh3 working dog. I haven't personally known too many 9 year olds still competing (not talking about "training" - competing at 9+ years old) - I would think it highly unusual in fact to see one competing at any level of Schh at 9+ years old, let alone National or World level.

yes it is unusual, as most people don't care to trial a dog of that age either because they've done it already with the dog numerous times and have a younger dog they are now working, or they get the dog too late and never get it there before they decide to go with something younger. I titled mine, because she was mine, my only, and what I was working with and no I don't think 9 was that old, it just happend to be how old she was. had I had a younger dog, I probably wouldn't have. The main reason we didn't do her III was just for that reason, I got a younger dog and my priorities changed. I have no doubt she could have done a trial at 10 had I cared to. I've seen plenty of dogs that could trial at 10, just not many owners that cared to do it again just to do it.
