GSDPACK

So the question is.

For those who buy, how much do you guys pay for a pound. Those who make it themselves, I know the cost of chicken or turkey or organs or whatever. The question is how much per pound do you pay to feed your dog. And what is the percentage and the whole cost of feeding your dog per month. Please include the weight of the dog.

Lets say....:
84 pound dog, medium activity level, 3.50 per pound.. 1.7 pounds a day, cost per month is about: 178 bucks.

This is my research. If somebody doesnt feel comfortable talking about it, Please PM me. I am using this for my own benefit. And possible theses.. for school!
  Thank you bunch.

I pay an average of .90 to 1.50 per pound.  1 gsd gets 2 lbs per day @ .90 is 1.80 a day about 54.00 per month.  1 The other also gets 3/4 lb - 1lb 2x a day say @ 1.50 lb  $3.00 a day about 90.00 per month.

I pay usually .49 per pound...sometimes I find deals for .38 per pound from local farmers. For two dogs, one 50 lbs (moderately active) and one 80 lbs (active) I pay about $60-$70 per month in total I think.

And that's not even factoring in that I no longer have to take my GSD to the vet every month for chronic diarrhea...

Guys you are awesome, however.. I am trying to find a cost for Complete, prepared raw died (the whole deal)

What I am trying to find is a cost of The whole deal: go to the store, buy finished product in a package and feed it to dogs.
You are nifty  and you can figure it out. Some people are better off purchasing prepared dog food for the sake of comfort and knowing somebody did the nutritional calculations for them.

Thank you for your effort. I appreciate it.

GSDPack,
My male weighs about 80 - 82 lbs, very acitve and eats on average 2 1/2 to 3 lbs per day in the summer.  He is lean and muscular.  I feed chicken quarters, chop meat, organ meat, and tripe for the bulk of his meals.  I also ad yogurt and whole raw eggs a couple of times a week.  It costs about $3 per day to feed him.  My 12 year old female is not very active anymore and eats about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lbs per day and weighs 65 lbs.  Costs about $1.50 per day to feed her the same diet.  $90 per month for the male and $45 per month for the female.  No vet visits and no vet bills, except for some shots and check ups.

The cost for my daily diet is a little more than a $1 per pound.  The bulk of the diet are the chicken quarters and I pay .64 cents per lb for them.   The most expensive portion is the liver and heart that I add, but it is in smaller quantites.  I can buy tripe for $1 per lb and add 3 or 4 ounces with each meal.  Hope that helps.

Do any of you raw feeders add in vegetables?

Jim,

what is a typical meal for your dogs?
What type of chopped meat do you feed?

Ace,
That is a typical meal for my dogs.  Hamburger is "chop meat."  I add pureed vegetables occasionally.

Lol, sorry! I've bought Honest kitchen before and I think for my dogs...the Force formula ran about 150 per month if I were to solely feed that.

I am recording by weight and about cost per day. This is awesome. I am just starting the research.. By the time I am done it will be a 100 pg freacking report on the cost, the negative, positive, meat quality. For now I have to keep it in sections so I am not overwhelmed. My ADHD would kick in and I would Probably loose it..LOL

Thanks everybody!!!!!!

you can include veggies if you are also veggie meat feeders.

The food I feed is a ground meat bone mix and already prepared, they do have a version with veggies too.  The chicken HVM is 1.50 a LB the duck, beef lamb and turkey range from 1.60 to 1.80lb.  My one gsd is 64 lbs and my male is 74 lean muscle.  My dogs get moderate acitivity.  My male trains in and runs agility 2-4 times a week.  The smaller girl is retired. I also add other things as Jim stated in small quantities.  You can view the price list where I purchase my food at www.topqualitydogfood.com
