I hear a lot about bad breeder experiences. I would like to share my positive experience with the board.

I purchased my first GSD pup about 1 1/2 years ago from a breeder who I had been following for about 5 years via the internet, and I had followed my pups sire on the schutzhund field for the same period of time. I also observed one of my pup's 1/2 brothers progress in schutzhund training as well.

After purchasing my dog I continued to keep in contact with the breeder letting him know about my dogs progress. My dog had very high prey drives,  pretty good hunt drive, and hip prelim was good. One problem I had was demodex. at about 13 months old (her 2nd heat cycle) she would have demodex out break above her eye brows and subsequently after every heat cycle after that. Well the health contract was only for one year with my dog. Last week I called my breeder to give an update on my pup. I told him about my dogs progress in SAR training,  the demodex issues I had been having, and also that she was suffering from heat spots.

I wasn't telling him in order to obtain any type of refund, but just for his information, but he insisted on refunding me 1/2 my purchase price to go towards another dog. He also stated he no longer breeds dogs but he highly recommended Norrisk9.

Yes James he was very honorable. Not many around like that. It's always good to hear something good about a breeder, There is plenty of remarks about the bad ones.

So, since he was so honorable, would you care to tell us who he is?

Jenni, I thought about saying his name, but I didn't want anybody taking this story and trying to either take advantage of the breeder or spreading anything negative about the progency of his dogs. The person no longer breeds  but has produce some pretty good dogs. There are several people on this forum who are familiar with the breeder. Didn't really see any positive reason to say the breeders name. Especially since he no longer breeds

I guess if he doesn't breed anymore, it doesn't matter. If he did, I think it would be nice to say his name so that if someone is searching for feedback, this story would be here as a positive reference. But in this case, you're right if it serves no benefit to the person deserving of credit.

I have had several good experiences...all with the same breeder though. With others,  I just got damn lucky my dog was so great because egads, I would never ever want to deal with that unstable person if there was a problem. Yikes.

Sometimes how someone handles a problem tells more than when everything goes perfectly.
