Is anyone else having problems on this food? In the past my dogs did great on this food, but now every time they eat it they seem to get the runs, and have trouble going to the bathroom. I use a measuring cup to scoop food out of the bag, and it's always very greasy looking when I scoop and dump the food out too......like something has been sprayed on the food, it's a brownish, greasy type substance, maybe to add taste to the food? Is anyone else having problems with this food? I have 1 and 1/2 bags left of it, and I'm thinking of throwing them both out. My guys have had better results on cheaper dog food brands.

I would return the food; any feed store that carries it will let you return it if you mail ordered it or whatever. My dogs did not do well on that food at all; in fact after trying to feed that food is what made me go to a raw diet a little over a year ago for my guys and all have done well on raw. Have you tried honest kitchen? Just curious? Nan

I haven't tried honest kitchen. I bought the TOTW from Tractor Supply, but it was probably two months ago when I got this bag....I no longer have the receipt. Do you think they will still take it back?
by Nans gsd on 19 April 2011 - 15:04
Yes they should take it back; those places usually have their tracking codes on the bag so call them and see; also if they won't take it back ask them for their distributor and call them. Raise a little fuss and believe me they will jump on the chance to take back bad food with all the publicity it's been getting lately. Most stores in your area use the same distributor so yes take it back. Probably a bad batch or was left in the heat too long; not your problem though, exchange or get your money back. BOL Nan

Hey Nans, I literally just went to the store and got back. They let me exchange, so I exchanged both of them for the bags with Lamb....my dogs always do great on the Lamb. I will not be buying the Salmon again that's for sure.

Only wild caught salmon has high levels of Omega-3 fatty acid.
Farm raised does not, so I never buy farm raised salmon for myself or for my dogs.

I feed the lamb formula and have great results with it.
I have fed the Pacific Stream formula in the past and my dogs did good on it. I wonder if you got a couple bad bags? Maybe they were not stored properly at TSC warehouse.... who knows.

Jyl, I ended up exchanging them for the Lamb. The greasy substance alone worried me when I was scooping food out of the bag. It was all over the inside of the measuring cup I use, just oily/greasy brownish colored. It was very excessive...not just a little amount. Everyone is going to strictly stay on Lamb for now lol. I never had any problems with Lamb before, and they did the best on it.....I had just stocked up on so many bags of TOTW a couple of months ago. There was one time about a year ago I got a bag of TOTW Salmon and they all got sick on it....exchanged it for another one and it was fine. I'm just going to avoid the Salmon

I have fed both the Salmon and the Lamb and I too have had better results with the lamb. Luckily, I did not have the same issue you had with the salmon formula. My male who is eating the TOTW not is a dark black and tan (he is the one in my avitar). The black on him is VERY dark and shinny and the red is nice too. He has never had as nice a coat as he has had on the TOTW lamb. He has been on it since Oct 2010.
My female is eating AvoDerm chicken and rice now. I am thinking of putting her on the TOTW. I havent yet because she is doing really good on the AvoDerm. I just prefer to feed a grain free food.

I haven't tried the lamb formula. I have noticed some bags of Salmon, and also Bison, that are greasier than others. But never so much that there was an actual residue on the measuring cup or bag - only could be seen on the kibble. And I've never noticed that my dogs had any problems with it, greasy or not (but not that greasy). If all of your dogs had problems, then of course return the bag, get a refund or switch formulas, absolutely.
