Can a 5 1/2 month gsd run quickly, and not display any pain, still have hip displascia?

Yes. Dogs don't necessarily display pain the way we do. "Doesn't appear to be in pain" doesn't mean a dog isn't actually in pain. HD is progressive. A dog with HD under 2 years is RARELY going to be severe enough to appear externally different. Are you concerned about your pup, or is just someone insisting that your pup has a funny gait? HINT: all puppies run funny.

I have not gotten my boy's hips X-ray yet but I am nervous. It seems like every time he gets up and stretches or if he is just taking his time I get all worried. I don't know why I do it I just don't wanna see him have any problems. I know that everything has been done to ensure that he will not have a problem.

Does anyone know what the percentage of pups out of a litter that both parents are OFA good or better would turn out to be at least fair or better.

There are a lot more variables including grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc., essentially the dog's entire lineage as well as the status of any offspring. Your dog is probably fine...they all like to stretch when they get up...we could learn a lot from them in that respect.

I know that I have nothing to worry about in regards to how he was bred. It's just scary knowing that it is always possible for something like that to happen and there is nothing that anyone could do about it. I would just hate to see my dog in pain.

Possible, yes; likely with your dog's pedigree, no.

I've never taken any special precautions and never had a dysplastic dog.
