I picked up Dr. Pitcain's Natural Health for Dogs and Cats ...
I have not read through all of it yet, but I am pretty sure that I am going to start feeding a partially raw / homemade diet..I live in a very rural area with lots of local farmers that raise beef, pork, lamb, ect....
I called a local meat processor and they have a ground beef mixture of
10lb Liver
10lb Kidney
10lb Fat..............ground and packaged for .99 cents a lb.
No antibiotics or hormones...
Chicken Quarters for .99 lb.
What do you think about the ground beef mixture??
What do you think of the prices?
Thanks ...: )

I generally mix in a lean,or 80/20 ground beef,approximately quarter lb.with dry Kibble daily.
I moisten with water,or nonfat dry milk powder,and olive oil,two teaspoons,sometimes three.
I even add a lightly cooked egg in micrwave at times. You can even add Tuna to the mix as a treat.
I do not use large portions of Kibble.Three Quarter to one scoop out of containe Bin.
I see too many people overFeed especially at Night when Bloat can appear as the night evolves.

Jon Eric...
I like the idea of feeding kibble as well as raw meat too...Not at the same feeding as I have heard that it can cause some problems...: ) I would feed kibble in AM and Raw in PM...or cook meat very slightly and add to the kibble...

I mix together as long as you mix in luke/mild warm water, with a smaller portion of Kibble.
The Kibble will expand after water is added. Many people do not figure in the expansion of any Kibble after adding liquid.I think the problem occurs due to excessive Portions, mainly kibble.
It is incredible how much I see my friends feed their Designer dogs..

Jon Eric....: )
I think it has to do with the difference in digestion times between raw and kibble...
I am off for a quick shift at work now, but I will see if I can post the thread later that talked about the concern of feeding raw and kibble at the same meal....: )

Thanks.I am open minded to many viewpoints.

Jon Eric...
I can not seem to find the most recent thread about mixing kibble and raw together...Honestly, I am not 100% sure that it is harmful I only know that some folks think it is. I just wanted to mention it to you just in case there is any truth to it.
I feel more comfortable feeding them separately just to be on the safe side. I am sure there are opinions on both sides of the fence...: )

hi,
i feed raw and kibbles at night.
i just watch as he eats, becuase i feed chicken leg with it raw, carrots and some other things.
i just watch him, and his stool is solid no issues.
i would just give him an hour to digest before playing really hard or a walk.
but instead of ground beef, maybe ground turkey??

Jon Eric, that's incorrect. Adding water does NOTHING to help the unwanted scenario of kibble and raw together. Water does not cause kibble to be digested any faster. Kibble takes too long to digest, so the raw is in the gut too long and it has time for any bugs/pathogens/parasites/etc. to "take hold" where as if raw were fed alone, it would be moved out too fast to do any harm, which is why dogs have a very short tract with lots of acid to kill these things;-)

I would feed the kibble and raw separate; one in AM the other in PM. If you insist on using kibble I would soak it for a hour or so until it completely gets done expanding; then feed it. That goes for all kibble it all expands, even the grain free, not as much but it still does expand in their guts. that is where I fear the bloat can happen or at least one reason; maybe so, maybe not; no one seems to know for sure but I am sure it is at least one culprit.
