Ok, I"ve had it with my vaccum cleaner. Or rather it has had it with me. It just went and died and I can't revive it. I think the cord needs to be replaced, but I'm thinking maybe it is time to retire this one (miele canister) for good. So, who just LOVES their vaccuum, and why? Thanks for your input.

Bummer, I'm only half done and there's still a lot of dog hair everywherefrown.

Dyson Animal!

With 3 adult GSDs living in the house its vacuuming on a daily basis. They are expensive to start out with, but avaiable at Lowes too. Come with a 5 year warranty. Had to replace the little belt for the brushes a couple times. But Dyson took it under warranty and the last time they send even two! Its a strong "sucker" and doesnt work so well if you have area rags (unless you have kids that can stand on the ends). But on regular carpet....uuuuiiiii....I was surprised how much my old one had left behind as I switched!

I second the Dyson animal! You will be AMAZED at how much it sucks up the first time you use it.

Dyson animal
I have 3 adult GS inside also.  I vacuum on a daily basis and mine is still going strong after 6 years. It has never broke down on me.  My husband use to call me the vacuum killer because I would go through 2 or 3 a year.

I use a Dyson Animal DC14.  I got it refurbed on woot.com several years ago.  Can't say whether it's the "best" vacuum but it has worked perfectly fine for me, having 2-3 GSDs and one large mutt that is larger than my GSDs AND has more coat.  I like it for cleaning stairs and also my dog van which I clean weekly because I'm a neat freak.

Do you guys have the upright or the canister Dyson Animal?  I have hardwood floors, stairs, and some rugs and the bedrooms are wall to wall carpet. How heavy is it to drag around?

I am very rough on my vaccuums, too! I've owned Oreck, and Hoovers, Electrolux, Kenmore. I hate them all!  Maybe the Dyson is the vaccuum cleaner I can love, let's see what the DH says when I tell him ours is broken. He'll probably try to fix it, NO, I say! Just let this one die. Why are they always so expensive? I don't get that. Like lamps, too. There is no reason for them to cost that much! LOL

I used to fry a vaccum in less than a year until I bought my current one that has lasted me more than ten years and still in perfect condition. It gets everything up and is built to last. It is a tri star. It is not an upright unfortunatly but I grew up with kirbys and other good quality floor care products and it does beat them hands down and does it without ruining carpets with too strong a beater brush and vaccum like a kirby. It has hepa filtration that works very well as I am allergic to dust mites and molds. They were in the fore front before everyone made cheaper versions of the hepa. I paid 1200 for it and never regretted it as well as over ten years still going strong with no maintenance it still has plenty of go yet. I went back three years later and bought their carpet cleaning equipment and found it worked as well at 600.00.  I highly recommend these items.
