what are you guys paying for x-rays...I just found out that x-rays for a human are cheaper than a dog...(?!$@!)
here is the break down of what I was told...
sedation -$109.00
1 x-ray shot-$115.00
so if I want hips done along with 1 elbow thats 2 shots : $230.00+$109.00=$339.00 plus $35 office visit...
Also, since x-rays are NOT digital I dont get the copy (??!!)...so I called everyone in 50 mile radius..no digital xrays available...WTF?
so it's more expensive and its not even digital.....is that what normally is charged and done?
It was so much easier in CA...south is like a whole new planet for me...

Your xrays are your property. You have the right to own them. Find a vet with digital if you can. I have seen higher prices and lower prices than you have posted. Depends on how good the quality of the positioning and images are as too cost. IMO

$150 total, office visit, hips, both elbow, possibly one extra shot, anestesia.
The vet down in FL charged $100 more BUT they were digitals.
I use my vet for prelims because it's affordable but will go to someone else when the 24 month xrays need to be done because the radiologist there doesn't do a very good job unless my vet is standing right over top of her. :(

I would find a different Vet. I NEVER allow sedation for OFA's.. I would expand your allowed mileage and find someone else.
I pay $90 for hips and $160 for elbows. Plus the $40 fee for both to OFA. I only use this Vet for OFA's. They have digital now, they didnt used to so I would take my camera and take a picture of the Xray so I had a copy.
Now they email me a digital copy and also put it on a disc for me.
I live in Northern Ca.
The Vet I use is
Redwood Vet Clinic,
Santa Rosa, Ca

I just had a 6 month puppy done, OFA style, and it was about $150 done by my regular vet (actually they did hips and elbows, extracted a tooth, and gave a rabies vax and it was $180 total, the extraction was "free" because I ordered both x-rays). I keep all my films. My dog, my money, my films. If I go to the expert radiologist, I think it's $130 for hips and elbows. Those prices include everything (sedation, hips, elbows, me keeping my films). Sometimes I even get more than one film because the positioning was not perfect. If that is the case I'm only paying for one film, it's their job to get it right but they give me both films. Neither person I use does digital. If I submit to OFA I pay $5 more and get them back. Right now I have all the film copies ever done on my dogs. I make my own copy by hanging them on a light box and taking a high-res photo using a remote shutter release. Then if they are ever lost or damaged at least I have that for reference, though it's not a real digital copy I could actually submit for a rating.

I now drive close to two hours but it's well worth it.
$200 a dog, hips & elbows, and I got two hip x-rays to choose from, I've only been to this vet one time with my lab & she got OFA excellent, I was told to go to him for years.
I plan on taking 3 dogs with me this time.
No anesthesia, just take the picture, here's your dog back!
The vets around were I live are charging $ 430.00 to $ 550.00 (Massachusetts)

Okay guys...so I picked the next biggest city to me (40-50 minutes drive) and called Vet. Hospital not clinic, asked tons of questions, yes they do digital, yes I can get them on a disk when I get my dog, and no you dont get charged office visit for x-rays...so...
bigger city has a better deal:
$30.00 sedation, $62.50 -1 shot of x-ray...so hips and 1 knee (my area of concern in case she has ACL) total $189.00 you guys just saved me $160.00..
Thank you..

Some vets use "physical restraint" and it will likely be cheaper.

I Love my vet! 120.00 for hips and elbows- no sedation, no office visit charge and they are digital so we can take more than one shot if needed for best positioning. He emails them to me and I also get a disc.
