I attended a dog show a while back. I have been doing a lot of reading here the past couple days about nerve, drive, structure etc and how some think one way is correct and others don't. There are Bouvier people that feel the same way about our breed so its not a subject that is breed specific. But I thought what happened here was funny and perhaps says a lot as well. On the day of the show the herding dog judge I sware looked like witch hazel. She was tall, quite old, and was wearing this black trench coat and a wide brimmed black hat. Of course the wind was blowing on this day so the coat she was wearing would billow out at the most inopertune times and you could tell none of the dogs, Bouviers, GSD's or any of the other breeds was likeing this. When it came time for me to go in the ring with my boy who at the time was about 14 months old the wind had really picked up. I was at the end of the line so had to wait my turn and as I watched every dog that went up to the judge was shying away when ever the wind caught her coat. It was funny yet you would have thought she would have realized what the cause was. Well when it was my turn Ole Sully goes right up to her and goes into his stack and a gust of wind comes up and when her coat billowed out he sort of looked at me then her and then proceeded to lean forward to get a good stiff of her crouch. The look on her face was priceless and needless to say it was the only time that day anyone saw her smile or laugh and the people around the ring just roared. Needless to say she gave him the win that day which was a real surprise as he was showing against some of the top dogs. Afterwards the judge came up to me and complemented me on my dog and his wonderful temperament as well as his stability which is why she gave him the win. I asked her about the coat and her reply was, this is my windy day attire. She wore it on purpose to see how the dogs reacted to strssful and less then normal situations.

My congratulation on your win.

I have to add that I think I like that judge a lot. Smart move on her side...

I know a person in a show ring that is trying to put a Ch title on a skittish dog, it's not a pretty sight...Doesn’t make the owner proud either…
