I guess the question is how to get the dog to eat enough of a food.
That the food has enough calories is a given and not difficult. If a food has enough fat and the dog will eat it, how can there be problem with a dog gaining fat?
Weight is not just fat; it is muscle, both the organs and the skeleton .
A male takes time to fill up.
Exercise will build muscle and reduce fat.
IMHO.

Some lines take up to 3 years to fill up, the same with early neutered boys...

The food I found with the most calories was EVO red meat. 535 calories/cup. I also have a skinny (old) male and am trying to keep his weight. But if they will eat raw meat, give him raw meat whenever you don't give kibble. In otherwards feed raw meat and kibble at different times of day. BOL Nan
