I have combed thru the net on pregnant bitch nitrition, but the recommendation is in general for all breeds and not just the GSD.
May be some very experienced breeder can opine here.
Assuming that she is in ideal weight now.
Should I increase food starting week 5 or starting week 6?
The suggested increase varies widely from article to article, from 10% then week by week increase to 25%, to 50% soon.
What is a good increase timetable? I suppose the number of puppies is a factor.
Also, it is said that too rich and too much food for the bitchduring pregnancy will result in too big and fat pups at birth and so is undesirable. But too much under-weight in puppies is also not good.
What is a good balance in pregancy bitch nutrition for GSD?
I plan to rely on the Kirkland brand of chicken veggie for puppies with 28 % protein and 17% fat. 17% fat is not high even for general maintenance, but if a bitch has to eat three times as much, would too much total fat intake cause indigestion? I am hesitant to feed 9 cups of food a day with 22% fat, as her digestive tract might not handle that much daily intake of fat.
