WDA ANNOUNCES A NEW NATIONAL EVENT
The National Universal Sieger Championship (NUSC) is a combined Breed Show and Schutzhund Trial and will serve as the GSDCA/GSDCA-WDA team qualifying event for the inaugural WUSV Universal Sieger Championship to be held in Linz, Austria in June 2011. Under the auspices of the GSDCA, the WDA hopes to send three dog/handler teams to this new international event, of which at least one team must be a "Bitch" team (referring to the dog, only, of course ).

DATE: May 20-22, 2011.

TRIAL JUDGE: Bernhard Prem, SVF-Austria. Mr. Prem, himself, has bred and trained many Austrian Universal Sieger Champions.

BREED SHOW JUDGE: Albrecht Woerner, SV-Germany. Mr. Woerner will judge the female classes at the 2011 NASS to be held in Reston, VA in October. (Same venue as 2010).

LOCATION: Keystone-Buckeye Hundesport will co-host the event with the WDA. The exact venue is TBD. The Pittsbugh to Cleveland corridor is being explored (quality, extensive tracking grounds will drive the final decision).

Non-Universal Sieger competitors may also enter the Breed Show and/or Schutzhund Trial. Mr. Woerner stated that he hoped to see many dogs that might also be presented at the 2011 NASS. While not yet Board approved, the NUSC Committee also hopes that the trial will be co-designated as the WDA H.O.T/B.H.O.T. Championship.

QUESTIONS/SUGGESTIONS: Contact NUSC Committee members, Gene Kalvaitis (GeneMrK@aol.com) or Gayle Kirkwood (gckirkwood@aol.com).

The Universal Sieger competitions are an excellent format for German Shepherd Dogs that represent the best from the totality of the SV breeding standard. The format, as currently practiced in Germany at the club, regional, and national levels is straight forward. Dogs are presented on day one for conformation and placed in order without further critique or show ratings assigned. Day two is the trial and another order of finish. Highest combined is awarded the Universal Sieger for that event.

There are many dogs in this country with the structure and working ability to represent us all well on the World stage via the WUSV World Universal Sieger. Those dogs who combine SG or higher capability in both structure and work at the National level will be highly competitive. Through these kinds of venues, they can receive the additional recognition they deserve as exceptionally "breed worthy."

I sincerely hope the best from that pool choose to participate as there is no doubt of the quality teams our German and European friends will field...

To Gene and Gayle at WDA and Mark and Anne Marie at UScA, thank you for organizing your respective National events to select the teams who will hopefully represent the best from this "side of the pond."

Great news and potentially a good opportunity for me to put a BH on Axel as well as go for his SG rating!  Will there also be an opportunity for the AD?  Is the Reston location for NASS 2011 a certainty?

Thanks!

Reston was a beautiful venue and almost in my backyard. If you choose that place again, great. Looking forward to it!

what sort of teams will make it to the WUSV US championship?  One team from USA and one from WDA - or a combined team?  If combined, how are the selections taking place between the two US trials?  I think it's great and looking forward to entering one or both of my V-Schh3-KKl-1 working-line dogs.

Molly, It would appear (at this time) that UScA and WDA will select three teams each to field a total of six for the U.S. contingent. High Plains Schutzhund will host the trial for UScA with WDA's location to be determined per Gene's original post. I posted details and a link on the German Shepherd forum. Looking forward to your participation!!! Kevin

How awesome! Something for breeders who love a well rounded dog to aspire to, I'd take it over a VA any day! Good luck to everyone entering, someday I'll join you. :)

Plus, the high-scoring BITCh is automatically on the Team!! Presumably, if there is one in each venue, the one with the higher score will be the one to go to Austria.

GOOD LUCK, KEVIN!! I am rooting for you and Vandal to make the Team. I am also trying to persuade Emily and Barrett to enter. It would be too beyond to have two teams from the PNW make the Team!!

Thank you, Nia....

And, referencing your earlier point(s), there are a myriad of details to be worked out between the two organizations both this year and going forward.

Warm Regards,

Kevin
