Yes, you are fortunate to have gotten your money back.

I placed a deposit with a breeder here in TX that comes highly recommended by many.  After 4 breedings they were still unable to provide me with a puppy.  I asked for my deposit back and was told all deposits were non-refundible; my deposit was being moved to litter 5.

My heart aches for you and your daughter, to be so close to attaining your desired puppy.

I only hope that the breeder gives you an honest explanation, yes things do happen and dissapointing as it is I hope that you DO get your deposit back.

When a breeder goes to the trouble of sending regular updates and then only at the last minute changes their mind it makes one wonder why?

The only time that I have done that was when the puppy had a health problem, the buyer was extremely upset  and asked for my pick puppy which of course was not available
but he did get his deposit back and within a week with a full expanation of the puppies problem.

I am with everyone else.  They said they made a mistake and are sending you back your money.  What else do you want?  At least you are getting your money back.  I have heard too many stories where people get no puppy, no deposit back and they don't even hear back from the seller.  So I think you should count your blessings.

There are 50 million other dogs out there and you will find another or if you liked the stock of the breeder why not ask them about their next breeding?  Your daughter is disappointed which is hard to see as a parent but this won't be the first time nor the last time that they will be.

I am sure you guys will find another and be just as happy.  Good luck.

I know a similar story as to a good breeder friend in Czech that had deposits on all pups but decided to hold back pick male which both  pick male and female had deposits on by same women. Women was outraged that she couldn't have both and wanted full deposits back ( breeder did refund) Point is if you are a "good" breeder you do "breed" for yourself and IF you as breeder decide to hold something back THAT is solely your discretion.
I had a very similar thing happen to me as your situation and I just chalked it up to being very proud that I had a "good" eye for a dog because the pup I picked and watched grow up over 8 weeks the kennel decided to keep. Sucked for me but again it is their breeding program so they have the right to decide what stay's and what goes.

Not unfair just sad. Hope you find the right pup soon! I would agree this is a good breeder though 'forgetting' may be fishy.

Never trust anybody.  Know the laws and get a good contract to protect yourself with the laws in mind.  If you do not do this then yes, you are lucky to be getting your money back.  It is sad because like you I am honest and dispise dishonesty and greed at the expense of good people.
