VKGSDs

I live in west Michigan and it is not dog friendly.  You do not see dogs in any business other than pet stores and Tractor Supply Co.  They are not allowed in Lowes, Home Depot, or the other stores like that.  There is one bar downtown that allows dogs on the patio.  As far as I know, none of the area beaches allow dogs besides the off-season.  We used to have one small beach that allowed dogs but they do not anymore b/c people were not picking up after their dogs and the health department advised them to change the rules.  Where we go camping, you are allowed to have dogs in the campground but you can't take them on any trails or beaches so it's kind of a catch 22.

We are allowed to take dogs to most places here beaches, parks etc. here in Oregon but stores not unless they are service/guide dogs! We can take them to Petco and some restaraunts, bars etc if they have outdoor patios. It would really help if people were responsible with their dogs and cleaned up after them and didn't take dog or people aggressive animals out in public if they can't control them!! I have stayed at hotels where people from dog shows are staying and the ground is covered in feces that people won't pick up and saw some piles that had round worms in them, it was disgusting and disgraceful! Dog people of all should know better and we wonder why there are fewer places we can take our dogs!! It is a big pet peeve of mine for people not to pick up after their dogs. I had a neighbor who took her little beagle out for a walk and she walked him to our yard let him poo then walked on! I saw her slow down but didn't realize why until I walked down the stairs. I got my shovel scooped it up and walked to her house and put it back in her yard!! She hasn't done it again!!!

I'm discovering that GSDs are on some folks' lists of banned dogs for their rental properties.  I wouldn't have imagined that.  I get the Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, etc.  In my mind I never lumped GSDs in with the 'aggressive' breeds - I know that any dog has the propensity for aggression, nevermind the breed - but I guess I've always figured that since the GSD breed is used in so many fields (K9, SAR, Service, etc.) they wouldn't make it to a banned list.

In looking at some rental property ads, they're listed right along with Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, Chows, and so on.  I'm kinda surprised by that.
