Sounds like you've tried all your options locally. I don't know where you live or what you can spend, but I'd recommend finding a food that sounds good from a ratings website, then try to order on line. Shipping is often free with orders over a certain dollar amount, and you'll get used to the convenience of delivery as long as you don't forget to re-order on time! Flint River Ranch makes some popular products. Call companies and ask for samples to be sure your dogs will eat it. Ordering online opens up a whole new world of choices! Good luck!

I don't see the problem with ordering a decent food online. Orijen, Acana, Horizon Legacy, Pulsar, etc. I still say if you're trying different foods and still have consistent cow patties with multiple dogs, you've got a giardia problem or something similar...or wait, aren't these the dogs related to the ones with EPI? Maybe they all have pancreatic insufficiencies to varying degrees??? Has that been explored?
Almost everything listed is crap - Iams, Purina, Diamond.........bleccchhh.

To my knowledge, none of my dogs have an EPI relation. We actually ruled this out, as about the time the issue with cow patty like stools started, there were many threads going on about EPI, so I had my vet check for that as a priority.
The cow patty like stools have stopped completely on the 4 Health food and we have been on it for 3 months. I agree that most of what I listed was crap food.
The website Eldee sent me has great information. I am using it to see what is the best options with what I have available. It actually looks like 4 Health is not too bad of a dog food. The site did point out all the fiber in what I am feeding, which accounts for the stool increase; enough that it reassures that there is not necessarily a health reason for the stool increase.
Still researching. Thanks again for all the help.

Was it Mega-E then? I might be mixing you up with someone else.

by fawndallas on 14 May 2013 - 23:05
Yes, it was Mega E. Oddly enough, that dog seems to have a stomach of steel. Other than making sure her food portions are no larger then 2 cups, she can eat whatever she wants with no issues. (Keeping my figures crossed, we may have solved the Mega E too. We will not know for a while though as the x-ray funds went to Baron this month)

Just thought I would mention that Rachel Ray has a new zero grain food out and I think you can get it at Wlalmart. I am not sure of the quality, but dog food advisor rates it as a four star food, which is pretty darn good for a food you can buy at Walmart. However, if your dogs are doing well on the 4Health Brand and it is zero grain and rated well then why switch. Maybe you could start adding a home made stew with it. Just put some boneless skinless chicken and some organ meats in a crock pot, add lots of water, frozen peas, cut up carrots, sweet potato, blueberries, green beens, coconut oil and let it simmer all day long. Pour into containers and freeze. Mix your stew up with your kibble and add a bit of water, stir and serve. What a good mom you would be.

Oh yes, I forgot to tell you to put a sign on the counter that says "stew for dogs you won't like it" beside the simmering crock pot. Also one on the microwave ------
"yours in the microwave, honey"

Oh yeah, I can hear that too. Actually, more often than not, a part of our dinner meals is set aside for the dogs too. I get lots of "What is that? Why are you not cooking that part? The dogs eat better than we do." Lol
