Canidae is also made by Diamond. We had used it for a couple years with good results. When Diamond bought Canidae brand the formula was changed and I noticed a difference in our dogs coat and stools. We ended up trying a couple, different brands and stuck with Fromm',s gold until we went grain free.
Our local feed store carries the Nutrisource and we did try this one also. For some reason our dogs did not care for it and would always leave a rather large amount in their food dishes at meal time.
Have heard good about the Wellness and Natural balances brands. If the Synergy is high in fat it might work for our male. He tends to do well on the high fat diets. While all our Shepherds are very active he just seems to need a little extra fat and protein in his diet. He is three years old and is constantly in motion. We have thirty acres he patrols whenever we are outside and really burns off the calories.
Thanks for all the info everyone. I really appreciate all the advice. My hubby thinks I am crazy worrying over our dogs food so much while he gets to eat whatever is on sale at the local Walmart. I told, him he is just lucky he isn't eating the Ole Roy from Wallyworld!

Another one I forgot to mention is the Barking at the Moon from Solid Gold. It is high protein and high fat.
I did not realize that Canidae was made by Diamond until I looked at it closer. Then I came on here to comment about it and noticed you already did.
That is too bad that TOTW is having shippment issues. I have always liked the TOTW even though it is made by Diamond. I am currently feeding the food that is close to TOTW called Natures Domain. I am using the salmon/potato formula. My dog has a beautiful coat and her stools are good. The only thing I do not like is that she goes 3-4 times a day. So I was going to switch her to the TOTW salmon. I may give the Natural Balance fish a try, since I can get it at work.

OWNED by Diamond and MADE by Diamond are two different things. They do contract out some of their foods to be made by others, so it would still be up to them about ingredient changes, but the fact that they're not made in the same places may eliminate a few of the worries. Honestly, if you look at the recalls Diamond has been involved in, most are not nearly as serious as other recalls (the famous Menu foods one) and we need to keep in mind that such a HUGE company is naturally going to have more recalls than a Mom & Pop type company- it's just statisitcs/proportion.
Even in 07, while a few Diamond foods were involved, it was nowhere near the magnitude of the others, and since then, I believe they have implemented a new checking system.
I'm not saying I would choose Diamond over, say, Orijen, but I wanted to point out that with the number of foods Diamond makes, their track record is really not as bad as it seems.

I've used that Bison & Roasted Venison
There is a sharp smell of salmon flavor. He did not eat food.
Is 1.5 years, is fed raw. There are additives in canned foods. I dont think is healthy.

I also feed Natual Balance Limited Ingredients after I learned that Orijen and Wellness Core caused an allergic reaction in my dogs (itching etc). I was told that Natural Balance is made in a Diamond factory, but is NOT a brand owned by Diamond. So the way it was explained to me, is that Natual Balance leases Diamonds equipment/space to do thier manufacturing and packing. I at one time thought to try TOTW, but found out it was bought by Diamond many years back and chose not to switch.
I supplement with real chicken, red meat, cheese, eggs, yogurt, veggies and oatmeal. But, I do cook this food because I believe salmonella and bacteria left over from modern industrial processing is simply too much for any dogs digestive tract to handle. I'm not against the idea of RAW and believe it could be a beneficial practice, however I just don't think the methods we use to process food today allows for it to be safely done.

Hi all, I fed Wellness core for a few years and was happy with the results (and swore by it) until they changed the fiber source to pea fiber. The stools would look greenish and increased in size, as well as gas. I also had some issues with mushy stools now and then (too much fiber?).
I have now everyone on the Wellness LID Salmon and Rice which I have fed to my allergic male for 4 years. Everyone is doing well on it, coats are actually softer and the stools are very small (little dog size!). However, change is coming again. In the bags there are coupons that state that the formulas are changing...my Rice and Salmon will become Salmon and Potato. I am worried for my allergic male over that change. I had tried many LID formulas from different brands, and only the Wellness was working (even if it had the same ingredients written on the bag).
Over the last months Wellness also increased in price tremendously. At Petco its now almost $10 more per bag. Currently I am ordering it online from either Amazon or Wag.com for much cheaper, but wonder how long that will last too.

It's due to the Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice recall for salmonella from one plant in Gaston SC. The press release was dated April 6, 2012 and came from DiamondPet.com site. May be a silent recall of TOTW; nothing on the TOTW website and only rumors on a Sig forum that Diamond has stopped shipping everything from that plant. Tough to find out solid info on the weekend.

I have noticed that the shelves on the couple stores I go into that carry TOTW are very low and some of the formulas they were out of. I live in Northern California. I called the phone number on TOTW website this week and spoke to a lady there. I forgot her name. I asked if TOTW had anything to do with the Diamond Naturals lamb and rice recall, I also asked if there was a shipment issue with TOTW as well... She told me that there is "no shipment issues" with TOTW.
I still like TOTW. It is a good grain free food for the cost. I can get it for $39.99 for the 30 pound bag. One of my SchH club members feeds the TOTW to her dog, her male looks great on it.
