You can shoot dogs that go after your chickens in Texas;  Too bad the neighbor didn't think of that!

"Police say the neighbor told them he didn't realize the dog would swallow the needle-tainted meat.

Yes the owner is responsible for the dogs, I whole heartedly agree BUT the above sentence is the stupidist thing i,ve ever heard. Owner needs his ass kicked for not taking care of his dogs, neighbor deserves a severe beating for being that stupid or just flat out lieing.

Either wat the poor dog paid the price.

This whole situation is sad on so many levels, what a horrible way to go...I would also want to be sure that the neighbor really did put it in HIS yard and didn't just slip it to the dog. I totally agree with Chaz, a fence is so essential for the safety of everyone. I assume most of us have dogs that are pretty protective of their homes as they should be and there is just too much risk not to have a fence. Obviously some can't afford it and I know people here regardless are taking great care of their dogs. I am even more paranoid my dogs go out ONE at a time, and always supervised other than that they are inside, all their walks and outside time are closely watched. Frankly it is because of this exact shit that happened with this dog, you never know when some prick is going to poison or stick needles and feed it to your dog then claim the dog was outside of their yard or whatever...Too much to risk, my dogs I view pretty much the same as I view my children and it our job to protect them at all costs.

Dogs hate shocks, I know mine do, as I have electric fencing for the horse.  It might work!

As long as they don't get out, and then are afraid to come back in.   Anyone ever had that happen?

can people get in?

that would be what i would be so scared of a person walking in by mistake ? with my dog. but i have fencing at this house i want to buy a new house soon though.  Fencing cost me 7 thousand dollars and i Live in the same area as you red sable.  My fencing is over five feet high also.

Parts of my fencing is Double fenced that is the part people might go near cause it is near a side walk so i had that part double fenced with wood so my dog cant see what is going over there and they cant see her just extra caution.
