I would stop training with people that don't have full names. These people with one letter last names seem to be a problem.

Cheque Drops are in fact used to address a medical condition. GSD bitches have become notorious for having too many seasons. Some come into season every 3 or 4 months. This has serious adverse effects on the uterus, which never recovers fully from each season. This leads to a 3yo gsd bitch having the uterus of a 9 yo bitch of another breed. It can also result in infertility, because the uterus does not fully recover. The drug does not have the same effect on a canine bitch as it does a human body builder. It does not enhance performance, muscle mass, mood,or anything else. It simply prevents the heat cycle. Reproductive vets recommend that it not be used more than 2 years at a time.

So, my response to complaints about E's bitch would be to shut up and trial, or pull. But, his entry fee would not be returned.

Jaggirl: No. This is an entirely new hypothetical with a new X.

Our training director works his dogs purposley with females in heat. It,s called training. Here is a quote" I hope your female  pee,s right in the blind because the males better get used to working throught it".

Kinda answers both possed questions.

Bob,

While I agree in principle, the fact is that  a lot of club dogs are family dogs whose owners do not want to have to do what it may take to make the dog "work through it."   That would be particularly true with respect to individuals entering a trial for a Bh, who perhaps have a dog that cannot go further in schutzhund, but will go on to trials for Trs, OBs and maybe an Fh or two.   We lose enough people in this sport as it is from discouragement ( in various forms from unwelcoming clubs/individuals, unscrupulous breeders, nasty judges, etc).    We don't need to add to it, when it is relatively easy to segregate a bitch in season to minimize the impact on the average male entered in a club trial.

In a regional or national event, my opinion would be different.  In that case , you train for the bitch in season... and food vendors cooking near the field..and hotel stays...and different climates...and...smiley

I notice that no one has dealt with the cheater falsely claiming his bitch is in season, in order to go last (and train a couple of extra days).   IMO, that is unsportmanlike conduct that should be sanctioned as well, if it can be determined that, in fact, this is the third time in eight months  that G has claimed  the bitch was in season and it is NOT in season at this trial.    I would think that if G's bitch were coming into season that frequently, her vet would have recommended Cheque Drops.  I'd expect that G could provide some corroboration from her vet about the frequent seasons.   Notice that I did not say I would expect the bitch to be on Cheque Drops necessarily.  Cheque Drops are fiendishly expensive--$100 a month.

In all honesty, I could care less if someone thinks some thing gives them a edge or cheats the only competiton for me is the last score in my scorebook. I understand that more people take it more seriously then that but i don,t.

At a club trial I think it is fine to move them to the last up on the field.

To ask to have the field sanitized!! is nuts.

I don,t want weaker dogs in Schutzhund That is what AKC obedience and 4H is for.

its all nuts.  People need to train their own dogs for competition - if they have a male dog who is highly distractable around females in heat, they need to train around females in heat in case that problem pops up at a trial.  At a trial, it is normal and understandable for competitors with male dogs to expect owners of females in heat to announce that fact, and not take their females on the field (at all) until the trial is basically over.  But anyone who thinks the male dogs don't understand there is a female in heat in the area of the trial is fooling themselves.  In the end, it is the one who trains for problems such as this who will do just fine and the others who will continue to complain about it.

I was entered in a National-level trial once with my dog Eagle.  Experienced older stud dog...  I shared a ride to the trial, and after draw night my friend and I realized we were on conflicting tracking/stadium schedules.  Friends' truck had the stadium when I had to be at tracking.  So I looked for a ride and found someone willing to take me out one flight before their own tracking flight.  She happened to have a female in heat.   She had been parking at the far side of the parking lot, driving off-property to walk her dog, doing everything possible to keep her female away from the trial venue.  My dog traveled to the tracking fields in the same enclosed vehicle, in the crate just next to the female in heat.  He sat in that crate until we were ready to track.  He then banged out a 98 point track in very difficult conditions.

Another competitor in my flight noticed the vehicle parked (far away) at tracking and had a complete hissy fit that she was there (one flight before her own).  His dog quit after the first leg and he failed tracking, on the same field as my dog.  He had a temper tantrum to the judge and to everyone around, screaming like a child that his dog was distracted by the female in heat.  The judge had just seen my dog track (same field, same conditions) and get a 98 - so  he did not grant a retrack.  That competitor stormed off the field, pulled his dog "due to injury" and left the trial.  Poor sportsmanship, and it's very sad to see it in a sport that is supposed to be fun and rewarding.

anyway - cheque drops - who cares?  the female isn't in heat.  Thats all that anyone should care about.  It is not performance-enhancing - so who the hell cares if a female is on cheque drops to keep her out of heat?  I certainly would not.
