HD is both hereditary and developmental.

5.5 month old GSD pup is supposed to be a bit thin and should not be fed food of too high Calcium content.

JWalker Why don't you ease your worries and get your puppy a preliminary x-ray. Post it on here and let people ease your mind. If there is something or the x-ray shows anything you can change your program before you have to send in at 2 to OFA or 1 to SV. Just a thought, Nan

That is exactly what I'm going to do. Gotta find a vet that knows what to do so that I will not waist money.

There is always a chance. Monday is my day. The overweight Voodoo Hartis Bohemia and Grace Bady Ron son I got back is going on Monday to have his hips checked. He has lost a bunch of weight but I am not very optimistic at this point concerning his hips. He does the funny sit I call it. I am sure he has Pano as he limps on a different leg every day..... He is 11 months old and such a nice boy. So my wonderful vet will take a look on Monday. I still have this little bit of hope.

Well my hopes were dashed today on my rescue dog when I found out she had hd and a possible knee tear. Cant do much for the hd but I have experience with knees so hopefully I can get her well enough to place into a home.

I suspected hd after I had only had her for 3 days. The vet I took her to was great and Im glad I went. Had I not, I wouldnt have known about the knee issue. There must be a reason for the question. I say find a vet and do it. But if you can, find one that wont anesthetize if the pup will be somewhat still. Dont wait.

Well NO Bhall; that is just a puppy sit; silly girl; is everyone paranoid or what? I know the future depends on the hips somewhat so everyone, don't wait, just go do it and without anastetic (SP) if possible. Best of luck Nan
