I personally am a Kirby fan. I've had almost every kind there is and worn them out one by one, year by year. I love my Kirby--never gets clogged and is hell on dog hair.

Well, DH did an autopsy, and the cause of death is inconclusive. He's researching the Dyson Animal and read some reviews that emptying the canister can be awful.... what is your experience?
Vonissk, my stepmom has a kirby, it just seems like it is a monster and I'd never get it up the stairs!

I love our Kirby, but on the downside it is a heavy beast. It's a pain to move up and down stairs.

Beetree and Melissa you are definately right on how heavy they are. I have back problems and when I vac I have to constantly take a break...............But the upside is I bet I have spent a jillion dollars buying those 100-200 vacs that the dog hair seems to immediately kill. LOL.............I'd like to have a Dyson but I just can't afford it. My friend, who breeds huskies, has one and she hates it--says she is willing to trade me. LOL.................

Most people with multi level homes and kirbys will buy a second one to keep upstairs so they do not have to wrestle one up and down lol

I have a SEBO automatic x4. Light weight and a power house. Easily carrys up and down the stairs. It is not bagless but I am glad because I HATED cleaning dander and dust out of the old bagless hoover I had. SOOOOOOO gross, I just pop out and toss the bag and pop in another. Anywho. Look into them. I really really like mine :)

Rooka....I think the SEBO looks very interesting , hmmmm! They have a 30 day trial, too.....! To tell the truth, I don't want to empty canisters. I like that auto carpet thing and the low flat profile for under furniture. A tad heavy (compared to my old canister) to carry up the stairs but not a deal breaker. Hmmm, my choice of color, too. I'd never heard of them before, thanks for the suggestion! There's a dealer in town, so I'm going to check them out. DH is threatening to get the other one repaired, but not if I can help it, LOL

Rooka, I bought the SEBO X5! I love the auto carpet/floor height thing. I love having an upright again even if it is a bit heavy compared to my old canister. I'll think of it as resistance training, good for me. LOL I bought the extra hose attachment so I can do stairs and leave it at the bottom. And the best thing is how CLEAN the floors and rugs are. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
I think I just might
this vacuum. I have a month to make up my mind!
Everyone else, thanks for your opinions, it all helps with making a final decision.

Bissell is what i have ...
it's bagless and it wont break your bank I think i paid $69.00 for it...I have a cat main coon (long hair), 1 dog inside (loosing its puppy fur) and 2 others who come in when its cold...I had my first Bissell for 3 years than moved from CA (left that one behind) bought LG, Dirt Devil, Erickson (?)..hated them all went to Walmart picked up Bissell again and had it for 4 years now..what I LOVE about it is that EVERYTHING is washable and EVERYTHING comes out no problem...so once every 2-3 months it gets taken apart gets water hosed/air dried and it works AWESOME! when it is set on "floor" it sucks itself to my kitchen linoleum so hard you have to break a suction and keep moving....my carpets look great too, no hair anywhere once I am done...and I am a clean freak...:)

In the words of Kanye West: "Ya'll can't match my struggle".
I have wanted a Dyson Animal forever. My DH has refused to pay that much for a vacuum, so I have suffered in silence "making do" with crap vacuums, replacing them every couple years, gritting my teeth because in the long run I am paying so much more, but it just isn't worth the arguing, so I just keep on keeping on.
Okay, so I needed a new vacuum last week. Went to the store, looked longingly at the Dyson Animal and walked out with the same Bissel I think Lady Frost is mentioning above because that's about what I paid for it too. Got it home, put it together, vacuumed.
My wonnerful wonnerful DH noticed I had a new vacuum yesterday. You know what he said to me?
"Interesting choice, but I would have bought the Dyson Animal"
