Dear Mr Sudarsan, I bring to your kind attention the following: 1. Can we get more judges in India from UK and America. For GSDs why do we not have a panel from Germany. 2. Does the KCI take to task erring judges.See the Gurgaon show. The judge needs to be fined. 3.Can we make the judges report more quantative. Do judges file a report with the KCi after the show. Is there a KCI panel which studies the judges report vis a vis the dog. 4.I am sorry to say you have not brought into the KCi many judges like you. Whatever anyone must say about you I believe that there are few who can match you for judging skills. 5. The GSD club is going to dogs- ha! Ha!. There is not one meeting convened after committee selection. Lets face it the entire selection in this club and the voting etc is a farce- Sanjay's bank, this Bank Manager is the returning officer, etc etc. The same election held in a nuetral place would have had different results. Anyway we are all preared to turn a blind eye to all this as long as the club works. If it is too much for Mr. Desai can he not be advised an Emiritus position. The biggest part is that the President does not like to Speak to Mr. deasi. How will this move forward. There is so much more possible.THE COMMITTEE shold also exert some pressure on the Secretary There are a no. of commited people in the club who can move things forward but with the office bearers sleeping and the chapters all over defunct this Club will soon be FINITO 6. Mr Sudarsan, if we are more transparent we will last longer. I understand that we in high offices cannot be transparent in all areas but it is important that we move matters and thru dynamism in leadership we can exercise control. So if Nagraj Setty must win the dog of the year this year, we are not bothered- we are not expecting any tranparency from you on that- we also know what the Club stands to gain. But what worries is things like Gurgaon, GSDCI, Club President not on cordial terms with Secretary etc etc.. 7. It may also be a good exercise if you check no. of entries actually exhibited in any pointed show as against those a few years ago- actually you can get a yearly pattern- it may give you an insight into where the dog game is headed. You may find that is some places it is on the rise , in others the figure is falling. IF IT IS FALLING EVERYWHERE THEN YOU NEED TO BE CONCERNED. AND LET US REMEMBER THAT WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE NO. OF ENTRIES IN THE SHOW BOOK BUT ACTUALLY HOW MANY HAVE PARTICIPATED. In areas where the actual no. of entries are falling every year you need to pull up the people concerned and make efforts to improve the dog game there Roopa Walchand

Roopa, I applaud your intentions. However, I doubt if it will be of any use to put this up on a board like this. Also, I take the liberty of pointing out a few facts related to your bullted points. 1. It is upto the clubs to decide who comes to judge. Nothing prevents them from getting a top judge from USA or UK or Germany. If they have the money, i am sure Sudarshan can help choosing one. Please be aware that some of the international judges are not specialised in GSD and you might not like what they do. 2. Erring judges - very tricky topic. A judge is allowed to pick any dog as a winner . if there is an objection, an exhibitor can lodge a complaint with the show commitee with KCI serving as the appelate authority. It is usually difficult to prove a judge wrong unless there is a disqualifying fault. Also, word gets spread and bad judges do not get appointments. This is just not in india - true the world over. 3. Quantitative judging is next to impossible. It is a highly subjective activity and sum of parts is not equal to the whole dog. 4. Sounds patronising but mostly true. Sudarsan is most definitely a world class judge. Part of the reason is lack of exposure in judging in other countries. Except for Sudarsan, Rangarajan, Philip, Partha and few others - hardly anyone gets a chance to jude abroad. 5. GSDCI was NEVER active in the sense that lay membership played an active role. It was always in the hands of the committe. I feel that the chapters should go beyond the annual show and expand their horizon. 6. I disagree to the part "we don't bother". Most people do care and want a free and fair competition. 7. Sudarsan can do precious little to pull up folks for falling entries in certain clubs. it is upto the clubs themselves. He is not a school master with a cane. he runs the MCC show on par with the best. Other clubs must take a leaf out of his book. he also helps out a lot when other clubs request his assistance. To summarise, Sudarsan is one man and can do only so much. Most of your concerns are regarding grass root level problems. if local clubs are more active and more people show seriously, KCI and GSDCI will wake up. Things don't have to change in KCI to begin with - we all can change things in our control for the better and push that momentum upwards.

Ms.Roopa Walchand, I do appreciate your concern regarding the future of the dog-game in India but I don't think Mr.Sudarsan visits this site. His email id is :cvs@md5.vsnl.net.in and you can send an email directly to him. For your information we had specialist judges from countries other than Germany. To name a few:Mr.David Payne,Mr.Percy Elliot,Mr.Malcom Griffiths from UK,Mr.Louis Donald,Ms.Fran Farley from Australia,Mr.Fred Lanting from USA and Mr.Tim Hadi from Indonesia.I agree that the GSDCI chapters should go beyond one show every year.Kolkata is having a new Chapter now and the distinguished breeder/judge Dr.Karen Hedberg from Australia will judge the 1st Speciality show. There will be a seminer also after the show and if this show.As a member of this chapter I know that if this show goes alright there will be another show in March. Mr.Sudarsan is a very fine judge and a fantastic administrator and he has placed the KCI on the international map. Most of the judges except a few are not half as knowledgable as he is and the KCI should do something about it.I think they should be given 1-2 group/s at a time and should have atleast 2 training camps every year where top international judges both from foreign countries and India should grade/evaluate them.
