I have a SchH 3, V, KKL1, OFA, German "a" stamp, wonderful female, a Jeck v. Noricum granddaughter, who is in heat. The stud of first choice may not be available as he is leaving the country for a competition. I am now looking for a possible alternative stud, but may decide to send her to Europe for mating, or pass this heat up. My goal is not simply to produce pups. Rather, I have some specific goals in mind. She is an outstanding worker, as per two SV German Judges who have seen her work. One said of her that "if all showline dogs worked as does this female, there would be no problem with the breed". I seek a male who is an outstanding worker, does excellent bite work and has an excellent temperament. I seek a male who can perhaps contribute to some height at the withers, nice feet, outstanding pigment and strong ears. Hip and elbows from sire and grandparents should be certified. The stud must be SchH titled and OFA or German a stamped, as well as KKL1. Videos, if available on the web, would be wonderful. She is in the western US and I would like to do AI with chilled semen, with two collections and insertions. If the right male is available, I would consider flying her to the stud. I expect her to be ready mid to late next week - November 17-20. If you have a male whom you feel would be a possibility, please email me with photo, information about the dog and bloodlines and amount of stud fee. Thank you, Hodie - Email: schwarzenberggsd@earthlink.net

If this her her first litter, you may want to reconsider the AI thing until she is at leat PROVEN !! You may spend more money flying semen around the countryside than shipping her to a good (proven) stud. Surely, you can find a good dog within several hours driving distance ?? No???. Ask around -- consider shoppping in Canada, there are nice dogs there too. I hear you when you say you just don't want to have pups, and have goals about what you'd like to have in a litter -- hopefully, we all can rattle those off in a big list -- but you need to find out if she can have puppies as a first step. I have friends who have been disappointed 2 heats in a row already - and that was with a very good stud dog available in person !! I am just a bet skeptical because I have done the FROZEN thing with one of the top reproduction specialists in the country - and spent big bucks to leave my bitch at the vets for almost her ENTIRE HEAT -- Only to have NO PUPPIES and a VERY BIG VET BILL. She conceived the next time - but with another DOG in the room !! So plan carefully -- don't want to see you crash and burn, especially if it's you're first time.

Pineridge, Thank you for your concerns. The female is proven, having already had a litter of 9 two years ago. Yes, AI is a risk and it may be that I will end up flying her to a male if I can find a suitable male. But AI is also a proven technique and when properly done, with properly collected, processed and stored semen, can and does result in many, many good litters. And no, there are no exceptional studs in my part of the country. I am willing to consider Canada and I have already received a few emails with information about dogs I would consider if my choice male is really unavailable. In any case, like I said, this is not simply about producing a litter for sale. The litter should and hopefully will somehow contribute to the breed if indeed I have one.

You might consider V Escobar Adelrik. He has an outstanding temperment, great work ethic, produces dark pigment, super nice temperment, no dog aggression. I have had 2 litters from him and have seen several others. His semen has been successfully chilled and shipped..

Escobar is V KKl-1? I was not aware of that.

Are you looking at doing a show/working cross?

by hodie on 13 November 2004 - 18:11

Hi Sue, I have not considered a working/show cross because I already have outstanding working ability in this female and really wish to improve the few structural faults. However, I am one who also appreciates an excellent working line dog who is structurally sound. So if you have a suggestion, please feel free to email me off line. Hodie

Hodie, If you are looking for showlines, I would look at Urban, who is with Linda Lundborg. Had heard of him in Germany, where they talked about his strong work. Saw him at the USA Sieger show and his work was excellent - stood out in a large class of males as the best. Hit hard and full, you could hear the hit. Was VA2 and moves very well. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/126129.html
