Last week, $710 for a single puppy from Czech to Frankfort to Houston, and $35 cash at the cargo terminal.

Puppy must be at least 8 weeks old, have all its shots, be checked by 2 seperate vets over there, and is in quarentine for 30 days after its 3 month old rabies vacine................quarentine is "not exposed to any animal that could have rabies."

If you're transporting a puppy and you're lucky, you can put 2 puppies in a crate and share the cost with the second owner.

the first pup i got, customs wasn't that bad,

"what are your plans for the dog, why did you import him," blah blah blah

then...........

the most recent import the agent looked at me and told me "go and get my puppy"

i almost fell over!!!!!

i think it helped that i had on my FDNY jacket and i also had a gold FDNY shield necklace on also.

I imported my pup about a year and a half ago it was about $500 + customs.

Just make sure that you get a copy of the paperwork prior to shipping, I've known more than a couple of people who didn't get do that and never got them.

Mid November shipping for my 8 week old pup was $460 Euros. Arrangements made by Gradlyns for non stop flight from Frankfort Germany to Portland Oregon on Lufthansa. That included all the millions of fees, surcharges and the crate for the flight and Gradlyns pickup from the breeder.

Getting thru customs in Oregon wasn't a problem at all. I believe the fee was $9 at customs and $30 fee at the cargo pickup area.  I have heard that some states can be more of a problem though.

And she was worth every single penny !!

Oh I forgot, I paid for the crate - would have cost at least $100.

That makes the cost more like $610. Puppy over nighted in twice at special "houses" to make sure he was in good health exersized ,fed, watered and not over stressed. He arrived with an amazingly clean crate.......even after the 11 hour flight.

Hero was horse from barking, yet in very good condition. I am very much impressed.

You can also fly over and pick the dog up yourself for under $800. Some airlines don't charge you for the dog if you are on the flight. And you can take a puppy in the cabin with you on most.

Gradlyn handled ours, also. We've directly imported twice so far. First time customs was perfectly fine, the 2nd time it was a nightmare. The customs guy at the Cincinnati airport was mad because he was supposed to be off work 15 minutes before helping process my paperwork-you could see he had attitude written all over his face. When he saw the paperwork for my pup, he said he just knew I was going to resell the dog I was getting, so I needed to pay a broker to get my dog, which I didn't have the extra $$ to do. He stood there telling me how he knows how my kind is, and how we import these valuable dogs then sell them for a killing... My husband and I both tried to explain to the Customs guy that this pup was to replace one who had been tragically lost in an unfortunate accident. He wasn't about to believe us, but when he saw our kids both standing there white faced with terror and shock, he signed our papers and threw them across the desk at me.
That male puppy we imported that the Customs guy was SO certain was for sale is laying in our front room here 14 mos after importing him. He's been a part of our family ever since we picked him up from the airport that dreadful day, still with no for sale tag on his collar. Guess the Customs guy was right-we were gonna sell him (NOT).
Reputable German breeders usually have their paperwork and vaccination info all in order like they're supposed to. If importing a puppy, the German SV papers often come 1-2 months after you get your puppy.

With everything, flight, paying a custom's broker, crate, Euro to dollar value, probably between $1000-$1300. One factor is whether the seller delivers your dog to the airport or Gradlyn has to go pick it up which will add several hundred dollars to your cost.

All good stuff to know. I do have an excellent and generally reliable and trustworthy person in Europe at this time who will handle pick up, stuffing the animal into a crate, delivery to airport, etc.,  ensuring paperwork is in order, etc.-my husband, who speaks passable German.  It won't be a pup, definitely looking at strictly adult dogs these days-after I finish changing poopy diapers for two toddlers i just am not in the mood for puppy poop too.
