i think that there are so few planned great pedigrees because there are so many gsd's spread across the world especially in the countries where they are popular and the really great ones are few and far between. it is easier to breed one great dog to a closer mediocre dog and hope for great puppies than it is to put the time/effort/money into finding, negotiating, and breeding a litter from two great dogs.

it is even easier and cheaper to find any two dogs which are closest to you, breed them, and keep breeding them in the hopes of winning the lottery with some great pups.

Also a "Dog soup" pedigree with all the "GREATS" of the day who are alive would mix a lot of different bloodlines that may or may not repeat their good qualities.  Thoughtful breeders breed type to type to improve and perfect that one type.  Throwing those into a breeding with a completely different type wouldn't produce the desired results... and the best breeders know that.

Oaklawn:

It would help too know what your idea of Great breeding cross would be? The question it,s self is very subjective.

Could you give a example of to help show your desire.

What i may think is a great breeding some may think yuk.

My future next breeding is a outcross but i believe it would produce some very nice dogs. If my female titles and OFA,S well. some may hate it.
