VKGSDs

Hutchins I show dogs in UKC and am not aware I've ever earned any points or wins for not actually *winning*, lol.  You can earn some points for winning without competition (or the judge can withhold the ribbon, it happens).  You may get a ribbon for a "reserve" (second) placement, but I cannot find anything that corroborates earning points for not winning.  It wouldn't matter anyway since you only earn a CH with wins, not by points. You need 100 points to CH but if you get your 3 wins at the right level with competition, you already have those 100 points. I think the points are more valuable for those who are super competitive and going for Top Ten placements and such, they already have a GRCH title and are showing all the time year round.  So, it is what you make of it. Some breeds are not AKC recognized.  I go to the UKC Premier every summer and let me tell you it is very competitive and professional when you are showing at that level.  A local club UKC show is definitely going to be more laid back and novice friendly, but that is true of many venues. How easy it is to get a CH ultimately depends on the competition available.  I have a male GSD that finished his CH and only has one GRCH leg because each time I take him to a show, there are only one or two other dogs entered in the CH class so a win over them would not count anyway.  If there's not enough competition for it to count, I don't enter him (normally we attend UKC events for sport/performance venues and I will look at the show entries and who is judging and decide whether to enter conformation).

VKGSD, Thanks for your explanation. I kinda thought that I was mislead, but not having any interested in conformation showing, (not that I don't think conformation isn't important), I never really did more research on the rules and regulations of UKC showing. Like I said some people will say anything if their is a chance they can profit from it.  Oh well, so it goes in the dog world. Wink Smile

Good luck showing your dogs.

GSD Lineage, the GCH is new.  Flying dogs all over the country to achieve or maintain national ranking is not

Thanks Xeph & Blitzen, Someone once told me at a dog show many years ago that GCH (Grand Champion) existed before the 1990s, but I had never seen it anywhere until recently.

If Anyone wan't to explain the UK CCs (United Kingdom) and UKC (United Kennel Club in the United States) GR CH titles properly, go ahead.
